Youth Swim Lessons
Parent/Child Swim Lessons
SKIP (Shrimp, Kipper, Inia, Perch): An introduction
to the aquatic environment for parents and their
child. Parents accompany children in the water to
learn safe, fun practices in and around the water.
Age: 6-36 months
Times: 6-6:30 PM
Sessions: 2,4,12
Preschool Swim Lessons
Pike: This level helps children develop
safe pool behavior, adjust to the water,
and develop independent movement in the
water. It is designed for new swimmers,
teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking
skills, pool safety, proper use of IFDs
and PFDs, and comfort with holding the
face in the water while blowing bubbles
and

offers children their first experience in the
pool without parental assistance.

Sessions: 2,3,5,6,8,9,11,13
Times: 4-4:30 PM
Polliwog (Red Cross I): This is the beginning
Fish (Red Cross IV): At this level, students work to
level for school-age children. It gets children
acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices,
and floating. By the end of this level, they should
know the front paddle stroke, and side and back
paddle.
Ages: 6-11
Sessions: All 1-13
Times: 4–4:45 PM
perform the crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, back
crawl stroke, and side-stroke, with turns. They are
introduced to the butterfly stroke. They learn diving
skills and continue learning personal safety, boating,
and rescue skills; they are introduced to the use of a
mask and fins.

Guppy (Red Cross II): The children continue to
practice and build upon basic skills, now performing
more skills without the aid of a flotation device. They
are introduced to the front and back crawl,, sidestroke,,
breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. Children
can swim a length of the pool without assistance at
the end of this level.

Sessions: 1-5; 7-8; 10-13

Minnow (Red Cross III): This is the initial
intermediate level. The children further refine the
lead-up strokes they have learned as their skills
become more like those normally used in swimming.

Flying Fish (Red Cross V): At this advanced level,
students work on refining their strokes and increasing

personal safety, and rescue procedures.

Shark (Red Cross VI): The students at this level
continue to improve their strokes, with starts and turns,
and are introduced to the inverted breaststroke, the
trudgen crawl,

Semi Private swim lessons are offered
for those who would like more individual attention.
Lessons can be one, two, three, or four students per
instructor. Private lessons are set up according to
your day and time requests. There are 4 lessons in
a package; each lesson is 30 minutes in length.
