Preschool Newsletter Week 12 – Term 1

12 April 2017
Dear Preschool Parents
Mother Theresa is a woman who needs very little introduction. This Albanian missionary devoted her life to
help people. She spread the message of love, humanity and peace to the world and even today, her life itself
is a message for many of us.
As we are celebrating Easter I would like to honour this great humanitarian by
quoting some of her messages:

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

More often we tend to perceive the words and actions of a person and in this venture of judgement we
miss out the opportunity to appreciate the person.

Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.

Every time you smile at someone, you are spreading a warm message of love which returns back to you.

I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.

The actions of one Mahatma, one Mother Teresa, one Vivekananda, one Mandela has revolutionized the
world. Your sole action to change the world will influence 10 others, those 10 others will influence 100
others and it goes on exponentially.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.

No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted.

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.

Yesterday has packed a set of beautiful experiences and tomorrow has a set of beautiful hopes and
today is the time to live, to work and to progress.

Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.

Living in the moment brings you the reverence of a beautiful life.
My wish for our Preschool families is a time of love, peace and hope at Easter and during the holidays. Enjoy
the time with your children and travel safely if you are going away.
Warmest regards
Lee
Staff News
We are looking forward to welcoming our new Executive Head, Mrs Ivanka Acquisto, at the start of
Term Two; and I am sure that you will join me in wishing her a long and happy stay at St Andrew’s.
We are saying farewell to our Aftercare teacher in the Infant and Toddler section, Vania, at the end of
this term. She has decided to pursue her teaching career. We wish her well in her new venture and
we thank her for her contribution to St Andrew’s over the past nine years. We welcome Linda
Jordaan who will assist us with the Aftercare in the Infant and Toddler section temporarily for Term 2.
Linda has a great deal of personal experience with young children and being a grandmother herself,
we believe the children will flourish under her loving care. She is in the process of completing a Child
Care course. We will be advertising for this position as a full-time post from Term 3; and we will
conduct thorough interviews to ensure that we have a suitable person with the necessary skills to
serve the needs of the younger children.
Teacher Judy from the Preschool section is recovering from her back operation and if all goes well
she will be back with us on 19 June. We welcome Nicky Thomson, who will assist us with the
Aftercare in the Preschool section during the time of Judy’s absence. Nicky is a past teacher of
St Andrew’s Junior School, and her love and passion for young children will enrich the children’s
lives.
Label personal items
Please ensure that all your child’s personal belongings are clearly labelled.
This includes all clothing, water bottles, lunchboxes, shoes, jerseys, jackets,
umbrellas and hats. Please go through your child’s bag and send back any
items that does not belong to him/her.
Term 2 supplies
Please remember to send a box of tissues, a packet of wet wipes and a roll of kitchen towel to school
next term.
Winter change of clothes
Please dress your child in comfortable and practical clothes for school. When
we come back to school next term, the mornings will be cold and the children
need to be able to take off layers as they get warmer. We encourage the
freedom to get dirty and explore all their senses while playing. Always pack an
extra set of clothes in your child’s bag.
Morning snack time
As communicated separately to you, the Preschool kitchen will supply the mid-morning
snack for the children as from Term 2. You only need to provide your child with a bottle
of water. We trust that this arrangement will make your lives a little easier.
Being an EcoSchool, we would greatly appreciate any unused scrap paper. We use it to print
worksheets on the blank side, and the children enjoy having the opportunity to draw on scrap paper
during free time .
