7 Day Baviaans Mountain Biker! Day 1: Port Elizabeth Arrival at the Port Elizabeth Airport where you will be welcomed by your guide. The rest of the day can be spent settling in to your new surroundings and exploring the city at your own pace. Day 2: Port Elizabeth After a leisurely start to the day you depart on a walking city tour of Port Elizabeth, one of the oldest cities in South Africa. The highlights of this urban adventure include, City Hall, The Campanile Tower, Route 67, The Donkin Heritage Trail, St Georges Park and a visit to 2 local craft beer breweries. Experience the best of the friendly city! The evening is all yours. Day 3: Port Elizabeth to Patensie After breakfast we depart from Port Elizabeth towards the town of Patensie, on the edge of the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve. After setting up camp we settle in under the African sky and prepare for the next few days. Driving distance: Approximately 150 Km www.afroventures.co.za Afro Ventures (PTY) LTD 2014/075338/07 Day 4: Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve This morning we hop on our bikes and enter the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve, a pristine natural area of approximately 270 000 hectares of unspoiled, rugged mountainous terrain. This area also boasts a wide variety of wildlife such as Cape Leopard, Cape Buffalo, Kudu, Cape Mountain Zebra, Red Hartebeest, Bushbuck, Mountain Reedbuck, Eland and Baboon. A back up vehicle will be available throughout the day. Cycling distance: Approximately 60 Km Day 5: Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve After an early start to the day we set off on the next part of the journey through this natural wonderland. Today we will cycle through the main wildlife section with the ability to spot free roaming wild animals on your bike. Game viewing doesn’t get much better than this. By mid afternoon we will set up our overnight campsite, the rest of the day is all yours to relax. A back up vehicle will be available throughout the day. Cycling distance: Approximately 50 Km www.afroventures.co.za Afro Ventures (PTY) LTD 2014/075338/07 Day 6: Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve to Sedgefield After a leisurely start to the day the first half of the day is spent driving through this desolate landscape. Once we have reached the famous Prince Alfreds Pass we hop back on to our bicycles to cycle through the longest mountain pass in South Africa as we traverse the Langkloof Mountain range into the lush Garden Route scenery. The ever changing landscape provides epic views as we head towards to the town of Sedgefield, a hidden gem on the Garden Route that boasts the title of Africa’s first official “Slow Town” and an untouched 14 km long beach. Cycling distance: Approximately 70 km Day 7: Sedgefield to George Airport After breakfast we head to the regional airport in the city of George where the tour will end on arrival. Social responsibility Guides for this tour are from disadvantaged local communities and are well trained on the flora and fauna of this unique area. The employment opportunities provided for these guides are extremely important sources of income for themselves and their families. Supporting these initiatives helps to build sustainable communities that are educated on the importance of preserving this pristine environment. Additionally guests have the option to “green” their trip and offset their carbon footprint by adding the cost of a tree to the total price of the tour, this will go towards to planting an indigenous tree in the surrounding area.
