The Magical Alaska and Mysteries of the Orient Tour,
escorted by a Travelrite International tour manager, will be a
fantastic opportunity to cruise on the fabulous MS Volendam
and see the highlights of Ketchikan, Juneau, Glacier Bay
National Park, Dutch Harbor, Alaska; Kushiro, Hakodate,
Kyoto and Tokyo, Japan. The cruise includes sightseeing tours
in most of the ports of call. It will also include some special
events for the group cruising on the MS Volendam.

Itinerary
Day 1 Sunday September 24, 2017
Vancouver, Canada
Today we depart Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane on our flight to Vancouver.
As we cross the International Date Line we arrive on the same date that
we departed. On arrival, we will have a sightseeing tour of the city. We
drive through the 405 hectare Stanley Park, then step out for a look at the
exceptional collection of totem poles at Lions Gate Bridge. We visit historic
Gastown, site of Vancouver’s original settlement, Chinatown, the Vancouver
Lookout and more. We will have an included dinner to welcome the group.
Day 2 Monday September 25, 2017
Holland America MS Volendam
The Volendam is a premium mid-sized cruise ship from the fleet of
Holland America Line ships, designed to be large enough to offer all
the amenities while preserving an elegant and refined ambience. The
beautiful garden theme of the Volendam is reflected throughout the
ship’s spacious public rooms and elegant staterooms. The interior of
the ship has a soaring three-story atrium and a multi-million dollar
collection of artwork and antiques. There are four restaurants and
cafés, three pools, two whirlpool spas, fitness centre and spa. The
ships Crow’s Nest offers sweeping 270 degree views during the day
and is a fashionable nightclub bar each evening.
Clothing on board
During the day casual clothing is typical, although shorts and
swimwear are not permitted in the formal restaurants. There are
three or four nights classified as formal for dress purposes. During
the evening on formal nights, a dinner suit or dark suit for gentlemen
and eveningwear for ladies is required for the main restaurants. The
remaining nights are classified as informal. Smart casual attire is
required in the public lounges and restaurants.

manager will be looking after you and there will be group activities
almost every day.

Victoria, Canada
This morning we will visit Capilano Suspension Bridge then Granville Island.
After lunch we take the ferry to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. The
city’s British colonial past shows in its Victorian architecture. We travel by
coach then ferry transferring to our hotel on arrival.
Day 3 Tuesday September 26, 2017
Victoria, Canada
Today we have a panoramic tour of Victoria and the surrounding area
offering spectacular scenery. Late morning we visit the Butchart Gardens
and dine in the original Butchart family residence for an included lunch. We
will have time to wander through the beautiful gardens before returning to
our hotel.
Day 4 Wednesday September 27, 2017
Embarkation
This morning we are transferred back to Vancouver to board the MS
Volendam for our fantastic journey to Alaska and Japan. Make sure that
you are up on deck as the MS Volendam slips her moorings and sets sail
past Vancouver.

At sea
Our first day at sea. During the day, you can explore and enjoy the fantastic
facilities and many activities available on the MS Volendam.
Day 6 Friday September 29, 2017
Ketchikan, Alaska
Today we call into the first town in Alaska, Ketchikan, this is the town most
people visit when they arrive in Alaska. We begin today with an introductory
tour of Ketchikan where we see Potlatch Park and a Native Alaskan village.
We also visit the Totem Heritage Centre, and see one of the largest authentic
collections of totems in the world.
Day 7 Saturday September 30, 2017
Juneau, Alaska
We visit Juneau, the capital of Alaska. We travel to Glacier Gardens, a natural
wonderland of colourful, plants, trees and flowers. From downtown Juneau
it’s a short ride to Glacier Gardens. We have an intimate look at this natural
wonderland of colourful plants, trees and flowers. We visit Macaulay Salmon
Hatchery, where you see millions of adult salmon returning from the wild to
spawn. We also visit Juneau’s grandest monument, Mendenhall Glacier.
Day 8 Sunday October 1, 2017
Glacier Bay N/P, Alaska
A day of cruising in the spectacular Glacier Bay. The icy wilderness of this
spectacular national park displays massive glaciers that stretch from the
ice-draped St Elias and Fairweather mountain ranges to the end of majestic
fjords. This park is also home to an amazing world of marine life. A highlight
of the cruise!

Day 9 Monday October 2, 2017
At sea
Tour members will be able to enjoy one of the many on-board activities or
browse in the designer boutiques aboard the ship. This afternoon, join your
fellow tour members for a fun game of Scattergories. In the evening attend
a Broadway-style show in the theatre.
Ginza shopping district, renowned as the most expensive real estate in the
world. We visit the Imperial Palace East Gardens, which is part of the Royal
residence and a superb example of traditional Japanese landscape design.
We check into our hotel in the afternoon and the evening is free to explore
this exciting city.

At sea
A free day to enjoy the facilities of the ship. Perhaps enjoy a little pampering
in the spa or massage room. This afternoon, join us for a fun game of bingo
with prizes for the group.
Day 11 Wednesday October 4, 2017 Dutch Harbor, Alaska
Today we arrive in Dutch Harbor located on Amaknak Island in Unalaska,
and the scene of the Battle of Dutch Harbor in 1942. The Dutch Harbor of
today is ranked amongst one of the top fishing ports. We will enjoy a half-day
sightseeing tour and will discover a destination full of breathtaking scenery.
From windswept volcanic peaks surrounded by the sea, to green valleys and
where World War II left an indelible mark on the land and its people.

A free day to enjoy the delights of shipboard life. If you are feeling more

Day 16 Tuesday October 10, 2017
Kushiro, Japan
Today we call into the port of Kushiro, where we visit the most remote eastern
part of the island of Hokkaido, and see Lake Mashu. We also see Lozan, an
active volcano whose yellow, sulphurous vents can be viewed from up close.
Day 17 Wednesday October 11, 2017
Hakodate, Japan
Located in Japan’s most northernmost island, Hakodate is one of the main
cities on Hokkaido. On our sightseeing tour we see The Old Public Hall,
Hakodate Park the bustling morning markets and much more. We visit the
magnificent Goryokaku Tower, standing at 107 metres tall, this is a perfect
way to get a view of the city and its mountain ranges.

As we sail on, why not head to the movies at the on-board cinema. This
afternoon we will have a session of bingo with prizes for the group.
Day 19 Friday October 13, 2017
Tokyo, Japan
This morning we arrive into Yokohama and disembark the MS Volendam.
We are met by our coach and travel to Tokyo, where we visit the famous

Tokyo, Japan
Today we will enjoy a tour of Tokyo. We see the Asakusa district, well-known
as a region of Old Tokyo. We also visit the Asakusa Kannon Temple, a Buddhist
temple also known as Sensoji. The temple, built in 645 A.D is a fine example
of Japanese architecture. We have time and relax and explore the shops and
restaurants in this historic area.
Kyoto, Japan
This morning we are transferred to the railway station for our exciting Bullet
Train ride on the famous Shinkansen train to Kyoto, traveling up to 270 kmph.
On the way we will see Mt Fuji if the weather permits. Upon arrival, we have
an orientation tour of the city of Kyoto before we are transferred to our hotel.
Kyoto, Japan
Kyoto is the cultural and historical focal point of the country. Our tour today
commences at The Philosopher’s Path, a pleasant stone path through the
northern part of Kyoto’s Higashiyama district. The path follows a canal which
is lined by hundreds of cherry trees. We will visit Ginkakuji, consisting of the
famous Silver Pavilion, six other temple buildings, a beautiful moss garden
and a unique dry sand garden. We will also visit Nanzenji Temple, whose
spacious grounds are located at the base of Kyoto’s forested Higashiyama
mountains, and is one of the most important Zen temples in all of Japan.
Later we visit Gion, Kyoto’s most famous geisha district, made famous from
the novel and film Memoirs of a Geisha. It is filled with shops, restaurants and
ochaya (teahouses), where geisha and maiko (geisha apprentices) entertain.
Day 23 Tuesday October 17, 2017
Kyoto, Japan
Our tour today commences at Kinkakuji, better known as the Golden Pavilion,
a Zen temple in northern Kyoto, whose top two floors are completely covered
in gold leaf. Formally known as Rokuonji, the temple was the retirement villa
of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and according to his will, it became
a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect after his death in 1408. We then visit the
Ryoanji Temple, the site of Japan’s most famous rock garden. Originally an
aristocrat’s villa during the Heian Period, the site was converted into a Zen
temple in 1450, and belongs to the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect of Zen
Buddhism. The afternoon is free for independent sightseeing or shopping.
We will get together this evening for an included farewell dinner to celebrate
the wonderful time we have had on the tour.

General information and booking conditions
International touring can involve a considerable amount of walking and stair climbing in
the places visited and it is important that all tour participants have a level of physical fitness
that allows them to take part in this activity without the need of assistance from others.
TOUR OPERATOR: Travelrite International Pty Ltd accredited
ATAS (No A10538) and ABN 64 005 817 078 is the tour organiser.
Ms Volendam is operated by Holland America Cruises and
the Ms Volendam fly/cruise arrangements are subject to the
terms and conditions and general information detailed in the
Holland America Line 2017 brochure 2016. All passengers must
complete a Travelrite International booking form.
DEPOSIT AND PAYMENT: A deposit of $800 per passenger
should be sent with a completed Travelrite International
booking form that lists your requested cabin category. As
soon as the booking is confirmed, (usually within 24 hours),
a cruise confirmation advice will be posted to the client. The
confirmation advice will contain all details. Travelrite reserves
the right to make a surcharge if the Australian dollar falls
from 1/11/2016 the date when pricing was determined. Final
payments are due to be paid to Travelrite International 90 days
prior to the commencement of the MS Volendam fly/cruise. A
1.5% administration fee will be added to payments by Visa or
Mastercard and 3% for payment by AMEX or Diners Club cards.

REFUNDS: The cruise is based on arrangements which
do not allow for any refunds in respect to sightseeing,
accommodation, meals or other services not utilised after the
tour has commenced.
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS: All passengers will require a valid
passport. A visa will be required for USA. If not an Australian
passport holder check with Travelrite International for visa
requirements.
TRAVEL INSURANCE: Adequate travel insurance is highly
recommended to cover cruise members for the consequences

of unforeseen events during the cruise and for cancellation
fees which could result from events such as illness, accident,
death etc.
BAGGAGE: Passengers qualify for a 20kg free baggage
allowance on flights to join or return from the cruise.
MINIMUM TOUR NUMBERS: The fly/cruise arrangements
have been made on the basis of a minimum number of
passengers travelling. In the event that less than the required
number of passengers have confirmed their booking 60 days
from the date of departure, Travelrite International reserves the
right to cancel the tour, giving a full refund of monies paid, or
offer arrangements to proceed with the tour at a modified fare.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Travelrite International Pty Ltd ATAS A10538
is the tour organiser. Travelrite International Pty Ltd, its agents,
officers, affiliates, and/or suppliers of services pursuant to, or
in connection with these fly/cruises, shall act only as agents
in making arrangements for hotels, transportation, including
transportation by ship, restaurants, or any other service and
do not assume any liability whatsoever for any injury, damage,
death, loss, accident or delay to person or property due to an
act of negligence or a default of any hotel, carrier restaurant
company or person rendering any services included in fly/
cruises, or by act of God. Further, no responsibilities are accepted
for any damage or delay due to sickness, pilferage, labour
disputes, machinery break-down, quarantine, government
restraints, weather, terrorism or other causes beyond their
control. No responsibility is accepted for any additional
expense, omission, delays, re-routing or acts of any government
authority. Baggage is at owners’ risk throughout the fly/cruise.
The passage contract between the carriers concerned, when
issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the carriers
and the purchasers of this fly/cruise and/or the passengers.
The right is reserved to withdraw any fly/cruise and/or make
such changes in the fly/cruises as may be found desirable or
necessary for the convenience of the parties and the proper
carrying out of the fly/cruise. This contract shall be construed
in accordance with the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia
and any action must be taken in the State of Victoria. Attention
