INTRODUCTION
The Trinity logo is the primary “signature” of the College. Consistent and
proper use of the logo will help to ensure the overall success of our visual
identity across a variety of printed and electronic communications.
In addition to the primary Trinity logo, these guidelines include the Trinity
“Spirit” logo and the “Bantam” mascot figure.
The various versions of the logos are available in the Encapsulated PostScript
(eps) format. This file format can be enlarged and reduced without loss of
quality. Installed fonts are not required for proper display or printing of the logo.
The eps files can be placed in page layout applications (for example,
Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign, PowerPoint). It is not necessary to open
the logo files.
While you may customize your communications with design and photography,
always follow these guidlines for use of the Trinity logo. It is very seldom
necessary for Trinity to create new logos or stand alone graphic identities.
Exceptions might include temporary initiatives like institutional celebrations
or fundraising campaigns.
This guide was produced by the Trinity College Office of Communications.
For further information regarding the use of the logo, please contact
Rita Law at 860-297-2142, or [email protected].

TRINITY LOGOTYPES
We have one primary logo. This logo is to be used in every possible instance to ensure brand
consistency. To accommodate a wide range of applications, we have four secondary logos, as
shown below. The logos may not be altered or modified.
Horizontal logo, seal position: top
(The primary logo)
Horizontal logo, type-only
(For use when the fine detail in
the seal will not reproduce well)
Horizontal logo, seal position: left
(For use when a strong horizontal
format is necessary)
Vertical logo, with seal
(For use when a vertical
format is necessary)
Vertical logo, type-only
(For use when the fine detail in
the seal will not reproduce well)

For situations where metallic ink or foil stamping is an option, Pantone® 116 (yellow) may
be replaced with Pantone® 873 (gold). The use of this metallic should be limited to print
materials for the Office of the President and special events. The logotype may also appear as
white (reversed) against a solid color background.

LOGOTYPE MINIMUM SIZE RESTRICTIONS
Due to the level of detail in the design, the word “Trinity” should not be sized less
than one inch wide in all versions of the logotype, as shown below.

4
INTEGRITY OF THE LOGOTYPE
To maintain consistency in printed materials and to preserve the logo’s integrity,
do not alter the logo, use it as a pattern, or place it too close to other page elements.
If you are unsure about how to use the logotype, please contact the Office of
Communications. Here are examples of how not to use the logotype:
Trinity College
DON’T redraw the letterforms, change the
alignment, use an alternate typeface, or alter
the letter spacing of the logo.
DON’T use the logotype
on an angle.
SAMPLE TEX T
DON’T place the logo too close to other
type or page elements.
DON’T use the logo in any other colors
other than those specified on page 3.
DON’T use the seal without the
supporting typography.
DON’T stretch the logotype or change its
proportions in any way.
(examples continue on page 6)
5
INTEGRITY OF THE LOGOTYPE (continued from page 5)
Here are additional examples of how not to use the logotype:
DON’T use the logo as a pattern.
DON’T place the logotype over competing
or distracting shapes or boxed in a shape.
DON’T place the logo on a background
with too little contrast. Use the “reverse”
version of the logo instead.
DON’T use the logo without
“Hartford Connecticut”
6
LOGOTYPE SPACING REQUIREMENTS
The logotype should always be placed in its own space. Use the height of the Trinity
‘T’ as a means of measuring the clear space required around the logotype. Clear space is
an area of isolation that maintains a minimum distance between the logo and any other
creative elements of a printed piece or web page.

COMBINING THE LOGOTYPE WITH TITLES
OF TRINITY CENTERS AND INSTITUTES
The following style has been established for consistent treatment of the Trinity logotype
when it is combined with the title of a Trinity Institute or Center. These combined marks
can be used on signage, event posters, brochures, and other promotional materials.
Specifications for these combinations are shown on page 12.
Examples:
CENTER FO R U RBAN AND GLO BAL STU DI ES
R AETHER LIBR ARY AND
I N F O R M AT I O N T EC H N O LO GY C EN T ER

I N S O C I E T Y A N D CU LT U R E
11
COMBINING THE LOGOTYPE WITH TITLES
OF TRINITY CENTERS AND INSTITUTES (continued from page 11)
Specifications:
Center and Institute titles should be paired with the horizontal version of the logotype,
without the seal.
The name of the Center or Institute is centered under the logotype, and appears in
the font Futura Book, in all capital letters, with tracking (space between letters) of 200.
The point size of the Center or Institute title should be one-third of the height of the
“T” in Trinity. A half-point rule, the same length as the longest line in the name,
separates the logo from the name. Match the vertical spacing to the examples
shown here.

TRINITY LOGOTYPE AND ADDRESS “LOCKUP”
The Trinity logotype and address should be used together consistently on Trinity
publications. Refer to the examples below when pairing the logotype and address.
The address is set in Bembo Regular, 10/12 (using small caps for the state
abbreviation, and oldstyle numerals). The baseline of “www.trincoll.edu” and the
words “Hartford Connecticut” in the logotype should base align, as shown below.
Set 0p4 points space between the last line of the address and the website URL.
300 Summit Street
Hartford, ct 06106-3100
www.trincoll.edu
2.125 inches
seal width
The version of the logotype with the seal on top (the primary logo) is preferred for
use with the address. The version without the seal can be used in situations where
reproduction of the seal is problematic, or when there is not enough space for the
version with the seal.
