unemploymentpay-theworstthingtododuringadepression.HecouldnotgettheReichstagtoagreetohisactions,so
PresidentHindenburgusedArticle48topassthemeasuresbydecree.
TheNazisgainsupport
AngerandbitternesshelpedtheNazistogainmoresupport.
Manyworkersturnedtocommunism,butthisfrightenedwealthybusinessmen,sotheyfinancedHitler'scampaigns.
Manymiddle-classpeople,alarmedbytheobviousfailureofdemocracy,decidedthatthecountryneededastrong
government.NationalistsandracistsblamedtheTreatyofVersaillesandreparations.

In1928,theNazishadonly12seatsintheReichstag;byJuly1932theyhad230seatsandwerethelargestparty.
