Finance is raised for Community Wheels fleet
running costs and vehicle replacements via
hire fees, local company sponsorship of a
minibus and other fundraising. Community
Wheels is also
grateful for the

Transport Unit, The

Community Trust, Tring Lions and Dandara for
their sponsorship.

Community Action Dacorum
Is a local independent charity founded in 1947. Head
Office in Hemel Hempstead it co-ordinates local
voluntary activity and provides services such as
printing, photo-copying, information and news on local
and national issues, Community Cars, Community
Wheels, plus many other activities.

Community Wheels
Community Wheels provides minibus
transport for Dacorum based
Community Groups and
Organisations. It was launched in
1981.
Community Wheels
operate twelve
vehicles. Eight of
these minibuses are
equipped with
passenger-lifts and
removable seats for people who need
to travel in their wheelchairs.
For the convenience of access for all
Groups and organisations throughout
Dacorum the minibuses are based in
Tring, Apsley, Winkwell and Hemel
Hempstead.
Community Wheels Prices
These prices include the cost of Diesel fuel, Insurance
and recovery.
12-13 seater minibuses: £1.10 per mile
16 seater minibuses:
£1.20 per mile
There is a minimum 30 mile hire mileage per booking.
While every effort will be made to maintain these
prices, they will be subject to review in the event of any
alteration in the cost of fuel and insurance,
All organisations hiring minibus(es) must be paid up
current members of Community Action Dacorum
Drivers
Minibuses can either be hired with a volunteer driver or
without. If a volunteer driver is requested it is expected
that any group or organization will reimburse the driver
for at least his or her out of pocket expenses and pay
for them to be included in the group activity. All our
volunteer drivers have a valid CRB check.
If a group or organization wish to drive the minibus
themselves Community Wheels is able to offer
assessments for MIDAS (price on application),
or Hertfordshire County minibus ‘certificate of
competence’ (free of charge, however, a
minibus hire charge maybe levied).
Drivers need to be over the age of 21 and have a full
licence for at least two years with no serious
endorsements.
Users of Community Wheels
 Elderly People—members of Day Care Centres,
Lunch Clubs etc who meet regularly.
 People with Disabilities—clubs and organisations for
the visually impaired, the deaf, people with physical
disabilities, learning difficulties etc
 Youth Groups—schools, churches, hobby groups,
sports and social clubs etc

Monday to Friday 9am-1pm and 2pm-5pm to make an
enquiry and booking. Please give as much notice as
possible.
24 hours cancellation notice is required or a mini-mum
hire charge could be levied.
All bookings are invoiced at the end of the
month based on the actual mileage
undertaken.
