Marumali Consultations [email protected] PO Box 542 West Burleigh LPO 4219 PH: 0449250719 or 0412930348 Our services are aimed at building and maintaining strong social and emotional wellbeing for individuals, families and communities, including organisations. We achieve this through providing services that are inspired by Indigenist principles that are accepting and inclusive of everyone. This approach to support is based on both strong traditional knowledge and strong current research. Whilst heavily influenced by Indigenist principles, Marumali Consultation services are considered of benefit to, and open to everyone. Project background Currently there is a service gap for peoples experiencing complex needs between being considered too severe for eligibility for assistance through better access or ATAPS and not being considered complex enough to access services through acute care. There is also a lack of service availability for those who require but are not currently able to access rehabilitation services (National Drug and Alcohol Research Council, 2013). People from marginalised groups such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, addicts, and those living sexually diverse lives often fall into the above mentioned service access gap (NDARC, 2013). The current program intends to fill these voids by providing a new approach to complex needs therapy through positive principles therapy. Positive principles therapy (PPT) is a therapeutic approach developed and utilised by Marumali Consultations. PPT is a bricolage approach with roots in CBT, Narrative, ACT and MI. The theoretical basis for PPT lies in positive psychology, Social and Emotional Well Being and yarning theories. PPT is intended a culturally responsive approach to therapy as it is based on simple yet powerful principles that are shared across the diversity of humanity. PPT can be used as a group approach or for individual counselling and form the basis of the Positive Principles Living Program. Positive Principles Living Program The Positive Principles Living © funded project is a culturally responsive modality based on simple yet powerful principles that are shared across the diversity of humanity, specifically formulated by Marumali Consultations to enable services to act free from cultural barriers. It is the opinion of Marumali Consultations that cultural competence as an attainable end point as such, does not and cannot exist, however practitioners and systems can function in ways that are more culturally responsive. People engaging with culturally responsive services are more likely to experience cultural safety and therefore to continue engagement with service. Marumali Consultations [email protected] PO Box 542 West Burleigh LPO 4219 PH: 0449250719 or 0412930348 This program is focused towards those in community marginalised due to drug and/or alcohol addictions. At the same time the proposed project will enable access to mental health services for those who currently cannot access ATAPS, Better Access or Acute care services, particularly those waiting to access rehabilitation services. It is expected that upon completion of the PPL program, participants will have improved SEWB in addition to increased self–empowerment and readiness for further engagement with other support services (e.g., rehabilitation) should they be required. Invitation Currently Marumali Consultations is seeking expressions of interest for participation from those in community who feel this program may be of benefit in their healing journey. Marumali Consultations welcome referrals of clients from organisations to the program. Self –referral is also welcome.
