The Metro controller provides automatic control
of ventilation systems that maintain gas levels at
or below a safe level. Where gas levels rise above
maximum exposure limits the Metro system raises
alarms to instigate site evacuation. By integrating
the gas monitoring system and ventilation control
not only are harmful gases kept to safe levels but
building running costs are also minimized.
The system allows for two separate radial
circuits up to 1km (3000 feet) long using industry
standard cable. Each circuit provides power and
communications for up to 125 detectors. Each
system is able to monitor 250 toxic, 125 flammable
or a mix of 80 toxic and 80 flammable detectors.
The AC system design ensures no booster power
supplies are required to achieve long cable runs,
greatly simplifying the system specification,
installation and operation.
Equipment installation and commissioning is kept
as simple as possible. A wall-mounting bracket is
provided to which the slim line controller is fitted.
All cables and conduits enter the lower side of the
controller via the pre-formed knockouts. Clearly
marked terminals ensure cabling connections are
rapidly completed.
Once the controller and detectors are installed
and powered up, the controller automatically
recognizes which detectors are fitted. Adjustment
of detector settings can be made via an infrared
remote control unit as required.
With up to 250 addressable gas detectors
fitted to a system, each with 4 alarm levels, up
to 1000 alarm events can be detected by the
controller, all of which are logged for later review.
Grouping, voting and activation of up to eight fully
programmable relays can be set up via the
push-button interface or optional PC software.
Each relay can be configured for normally
energized/de-energized, latching/non-latching
and on/off delay operation. Manual override
switches for all relays are included as standard in
the controller. In addition system operation may
be forced remotely via a Remote Override Box if
required.
Easy to specify, install and operate, used as a
standalone gas monitoring system or as part of
a wider building management system, the Metro
gas detection system ensures people are kept safe
from gas hazards and building operating costs are
minimized.
Installation Details
Highlights
The Metro controller should be mounted with the
display at eye level using the mounting bracket
provided.
All cable entries are made from the bottom via
pre-formed M16/M20 and 3⁄4" NPT knockouts
as appropriate to the method of cable
installation.
The system electrical supply should be made via
a lockable fused isolator suitable for the overall
power requirements.
5 core, AC rated, 1mm2 (17AWG) minimum,
with overall screen should be used for
installation. Cable may be channelled though
conduit depending on site practice. Continuity of
the screen should be maintained throughout the
system for maximum resistance to RFI.

To avoid ‘ground loops’ screens should only be

For improved EMC/RFI performance ensure
continuity of screen throughout all detectors.

System Overview
The maximum installed cable length is 1Km
(3000 feet) per circuit of up to 125 gas
detectors. Two inputs are available providing
a maximum system capacity of up to 250
detectors over 2Km (6000 feet).
A range of associated equipment is available for
use with the Metro system providing users with a
‘one stop shop’ for all their requirements.
