H.Upmann was originally a German banker who enjoyed cigars so much that he moved to Cuba
and opened a factory in 1844 as well as a bank. Fortunately his cigars were much more popular
than his bank (which closed down) and are of a light to medium flavour. The Junior, a 'Cadete' is
an ideal cigar for the novice or after a light lunch and the Magnum 46, a 'Corona Gorda' is
slightly fuller in style..
Romeo y Julieta is named after Shakespeare's tragic romance, due to the popularity of the story
with the Torcedors (rollers) who are read to whilst they work. The cigars are medium in flavour
and forever linked to Winston Churchill after his visit to the factory in the 1940s. The Petit
Corona is a 'Mareva' and the Churchill is a 'Julieta #2' vitola..
Punch, founded in 1840 and today made in the Hoyo de Monterrey factory, was named after the
popular British magazine. Indeed the character is still found on the boxes today. A medium
flavoured Havana that is often unfairly underrated and the Petit Punch, a 'Perla', is a real little
treat.
Cohiba, launched in 1966 and originally reserved as diplomatic gifts, these medium and medium
to full flavoured Havanas are also one of the most expensive due to their unique thrid
fermentation which gives an extra purity and smoothness to the smoke. The Siglo II is a 'Mareva'
and the Siglo VI is a 'Canonazo'.
Montecristo, launched in 1935 and perhaps the best known Havana, was named after Alexandre
Dumas' novel the Count of Montecristo. These cigars are a medium to full flavour. The Edmundo
and Petit Edmundo's refer to the main character in the book and the #2 is a 'Piramide' and is one
of the top cigars in the world.

Ramon Allones was started up in 1837 and is one of the oldest brands still in production. This
brand was the first to start using designed labels on their boxes and are a full flavoured cigar.
The Small Club Corona is a punchy little smoke and is the 'Minuto' size.
Bolivar, founded in 1902 and named after the revolutionary Simon Bolivar, who liberated much
of South America from Spanish rule. A very full-flavoured cigar was made in his honour to match
his might. The Belicoso Fino is a 'Campana' and a classic to be enjoyed after a long dinner.
Partagas, still operating from its original factory since 1845, is a very full flavoured brand. As
with all Havanas, the tobacco is grown in the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba to the west of Havana
which has the best climate and soil in which to grow the famous tobaccos. The Series D#4 is a
'Robusto' and the Series P#2 is a 'Piramide'.
Santa Damiana, a hand-rolled cigar from the Dominican Republic, is lighter in style than many of
the Cuban brands but a very enjoyably smoke. The Seleccion Especial Corona is perhaps the best
example of the brand.
Vintage Havanas, these cigars are available only in the UK and have a second gold band
denoting the year the cigars were boxed. Released after years of ageing these cigars are very
limited in quantity and very rare.

Hoyo de Monterrey, founded in 1865 by Jose Gener, produce cigars that are light in flavour and
ideal for the connoisseur and beginner alike. The Epicure #2 is a 'Robusto' and is perhaps the
best known size within the brand. The Petit Robusto is a very fashionable vitola (size) because of
its heavy ring gauge but relatively short smoking time.
El Rey del Mundo, 'The King of the World', was launched in 1882 and is typically light in flavour.
The Demi Tasse is an 'Entreacto' and is a light flavoured panatela style cigar.
