YMCA Day Camp 2016 Themes
Week 1: June 6-10 Beach Luau
We are celebrating the summer Hawaiian style. Campers will participate in water and land
games, learn water safety, make fun beach scene crafts, and learn water science. We will
end the week with a Hawaiian Luau.
Week 2: June 13-17 Cirque du YMCA
Come one, come all to the greatest camp on earth! Join this wild and wacky circus troupe in
a week of excitement. Explore the circus with face-painting, carnival games and wacky
challenges. Learn magic, funny tricks, circus animals, arts & crafts, and the science of
circus fun.
Week 3: June 20-24 Jurassic Summer
Let’s go back to the prehistoric times and see what life was when dinosaurs walked the
earth. Learn about the lives and extinction of dinosaurs. Put on your gloves and pick up
your shovel as you dig up the past, explore fossils and dino eggs and make your own
discoveries. We might even find a dinosaur living among us today.
Week 4: June27 -July 1
American Pride
This land is your land, this land is our land…”, during American Pride week we will
participate in activities that celebrate our country. Take pride in our land and cultures,
from everything red, white and blue, hometown heroes to celebrating national monuments
and landmarks across the nation – we have so much to celebrate including YOU!
Week 5: July 5-8
Shark Week
Take a dive into the ocean and discover the amazing world of sharks, rays, and more.
Explore life under the sea through nature and craft projects, skits and friendly
competitions. Of course the week would not be complete without a game of sharks and
minnows, and maybe the discovery of a shark tooth!
Week 6: July 11-15 Splash Bash
Get ready to make a splash during this wet and wild week of camp! Campers will enjoy
various water activities such as water bucket relays, water balloons, water balloon toss,
water tag and more! Let’s beat the summer heat with some wet, wild and wacky games.
Week 7: July 18-22 Rodeo Daze
Cowgirls and Cowboys put on your boots and bring your lassoes for Wild West Week! Dust
off your hat and get ready to horse around at Camp. Campers will enjoy all of our
traditional camp activities hold their own in a hoedown. There's only enough room in this
camp for a few of us! See you there partner!
Week 8: July 25-29 Treasure Island
Argh YMCA mateys! Come walk the plank onto me pirate ship! Have some swashbuckling
pirate fun and send a message in a bottle, try your hand (or hook) at sand art, and become

a Captain Hook look alike. Put all your pirate skills to the test and protect your doubloons
as we play GLOD RUSH!
Week 9: Aug 1-5
Live All Night
Prepare to be fascinated by the magical and mysterious wonders of the night! Be amazed
as you learn about nocturnal animals, constellations and planets. Discover how to use your
“night” senses. Participate in a scavenger hunt, nature trail hike, and glow stick tag! All
campers are invited to our 3rd annual Parents Night Out where we will have a campfire,
s’mores and much more!
Week 10: Aug 8-12 Messy Olympics
Get ready to get messy everybody! Join us as we kick off the Olympic Games of goo. With
slime, slop, goop, and gunk campers will compete in games to design the messiest creation.
From the opening ceremony, in races, and in closing ceremonies, campers will have a messy
time in this Olympic event. It will be a week filled with wild excitement and nobody will
leave camp clean this week…guaranteed!
Week 11: Aug 15-19 Space Race
Get ready to blast off! Got a desire for lunar learning? Blast off into this fun and activityfilled week learning about the solar system. Campers will let their imaginations soar while
learning about the planets, stars, and the moon. They will also build and name their very
own spaceship to carry them to the moon and beyond!
Week 12: 22-26
Camp Closeout
Time to say “Peace Out” to summer with a decade-themed week! Campers will participate in
their favorite games and activities from the summer and remember back on all the
memories made. Bring costumes from different decades to spice up the style and to make
those old memories into new ones. Pick your favorite decade and wear that costume to the
dance because we might just play a song from that generation! (P.S. Tie-dye is ALWAYS in
style!)
