Rosa Parks American Humanist and Activist Rosa Parks was born on February 4th 1913 in Montgomery, Alabama. She was an African American woman. Her mother was a teacher and her father was a carpenter and a house builder. Rosa was the granddaughter of slaves. One day Rosa sat on a bus, and then a white skinned person came on the bus. Rosa had to give her seat up, but she refused. Soon she found herself in jail for standing up for her rights. Her sacrifice inspired a lot of black people to challenge racism and equal rights. She had the opportunity to meet Martin Luther King Jr, and joined him in the Civil Rights movement. To join Rosa Parks many followers of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. refused to take the bus even though they had long distances to work. After a few years the government changed the law in segregation in buses (segregation means to separate people based on one characteristic – for Rosa it was the colour of her skin). Rosa was a woman who challenged segregation. Rosa was a role model to many people and her actions told people to use their voice and stand up for beliefs. And that judging from the appearance of someone is a very bad mistake to do, it is what is inside that counts. By: A.V and H.R, Grade 3 Image Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_Parks
