OVERVIEW
LSHTM risk assessment procedures; safety issues surrounding social and qualitative research
including discussion of fieldwork in 'dangerous' environments; what to consider when
completing a risk assessment.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
To help research degree students identify, assess and plan for potential risks.
By the end of this workshop participants will be confident in their knowledge of safety
issues and risk assessment procedures prior to departing to collect research data.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This workshop is particularly pertinent to students preparing to leave the School to carry out
fieldwork or go on research study leave as it is a mandatory requirement that a LSHTM risk
assessment is carried out, travel insurance (paid for by the School) is taken out and a
Research Study Leave form is completed.
