Middle Brighton Pier project

Middle Brighton Pier project
Draft concept plan Q&As
1. Why is this section being replaced?
The poor condition of this section limits access to maintain the Pier, breakwater and pathway beyond this
point. The deterioration means that this section cannot support the weight of maintenance vehicles driving
over it to access the breakwater on the other side. The aging breakwater is allowing waves and possibly sand
through to the marina which impacts on the marina and boating activities.
2. What is the expected project timeline?
The current engagement phase will close toward the end of April 2017. The final concept plan is expected to
be complete around mid-2017. The works are anticipated to occur in 2018, however the exact timeline is not
known at this stage. Please register your email address on the survey to be kept informed.
3. Why is the entire pier not being replaced at this time?
The Pier is currently fulfilling its functional requirements and while we recognise that it could be improved
and upgraded, there are other public piers and jetties in Port Phillip that are a higher priority.
4. How will I be kept informed about the development of this project?
Parks Victoria will keep you informed in a range of ways:

Updates will be posted on the project website,

Parks Victoria will inform registered participants through email updates as the project develops. To
stay informed, please register your email address on the online survey,

We will communicate with key stakeholder groups to ensure affected community members are aware
of upcoming works.
5. What has been the community engagement throughout this project?
The Middle Brighton Pier project is being undertaken in stages, and Parks Victoria has been seeking
community input throughout the project. In 2014, an initial visitor satisfaction monitor was conducted to
capture initial community perceptions and feedback about the Pier. The report is available on the project
page.
In early 2017, key stakeholder groups were engaged to provide preliminary input into issues and
opportunities.
The community feedback from the current draft concept plan phase will be used to help inform the final
concept plan.
