F IRST Chesapeake dba VirginiaFIRST is a 17 year old 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to bringing STEM-based leadership enrichment programs to middle and high school youth in District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Using robots as the vehicle, FIRST Chesapeake not only provides a format for teens to test STEM-based concepts, but also empowers them with valuable skills such as leadership, creative thinking, and advocacy. Each year, FIRST Chesapeake serves more than 300 middle and high school age robotics teams in District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, as well as providing outreach to an additional 50,000+ individuals through events and programs, and actively engaging 1,400+ FIRST Alumni in the area. FIRST Chesapeake offers many opportunities for involvement for the 2016-2017 competition season. Here are some ways to get involved: • Sponsor an event – corporate sponsorships start at $5K with exclusive naming opportunities starting at $20K. • Donate to FIRST Chesapeake dba VirginiaFIRST – your tax deductible contribution will help support organizational expenses including outreach to more than 50,000 youth, families, and educators, as well as infrastructure such as staff salaries and office/workshop space for teams • Offer your skills as a Mentor – One of the things that sets FIRST programs apart is the strength of its team mentors. Technical and non-technical mentors serve as advisors to more than 300 middle and high school teams in District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia each year. • Volunteer at an event – Our robotics competitions wouldn’t happen without volunteers like you. Between 100 and 200 technical and non-technical volunteers are needed for each of the 15+ events during the season. Volunteers can donate as little as 4 hours or work an entire weekend event.
