June 3, 2016
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The final month of the school year is here! Can you believe it? Here are some
highlights:
Monday: We practiced writing sentences
with word wall words of our choice. In
Math we compared and sorted different
2D shapes. In Science we learned about
animal habitat and researched the
habitat of their own bugs. In Social we
inquired and researched about why the Inuit settled in Iqaluit. We had the
Talent Show in the afternoon. FSE definitely has talent! I was especially
proud of the students in our class: Nathan, Owen, Amy, and Ella.
Tuesday: In Social we inquired and researched about why the
Acadians settled in Meteghan. We began writing our
spelling test of all 125 word wall words. We read the
story Diary of a Worm as a mentor text for using voice in
our writing. In Math we created our own 2D shapes and
sorting rules. In Science we learned that different bugs
can be eaten by predators as a food source. We learned
about food chains. In PE we demonstrated our Black Belt Attitude in
some very intense fitness circuits.
Wednesday: Happy 8th Unbirthday Hayden! In Writer’s Workshop we began
practicing the writing trait of Word Choice. We read the story The
Best Class Picture Ever! and wrote
different words that make us
smile/laugh. In Math we continued
creating our own 2D shapes and
sorting rules in partners. In Social we inquired and
researched about why the Ukrainian’s settled in
Saskatoon. In Science we watched a video clip about insects and their
unique characteristics.
Thursday: In Social Studies we studied a Then and Now photo of
Saskatoon and wrote about the changes that have
happened over time. In Writer’s Workshop we came
up with a big lists of synonyms for common words to
strengthen our word choice. In Math we observed
and described 3D objects. In Science we learned
about how bugs can protect themselves in unique
ways like camoflauge. We also learned about how some bugs can
be helpful and/or harmful to the environment. In PE
we began learning some Track and Field events. We
practiced running relays with a baton in pairs and we
tested out our high jump skills.
Friday: Happy 8th Birthday Ashton, Jordyn and Klöe! In Writer’s
Workshop we practiced using stronger word choices and adding details
in our home journals. In Math we continued studying and
describing the attributes of different 3D objects. We read
the story Diary of a Fly as another example of how writer’s
put voice in their writing. In Science we continued researching our
bugs using the Chromebooks and non-fiction books. In Art we learned
about symmetry and drew/coloured the other half of a bug as symmetrically as we
could. In PE we went outside and practiced relay running. We also learned the
running long jump and standing long jump.
Things to know:
We’ve begun testing the students on all the 125 word wall words from Grade 2.
