How To Fit Strap Adjustment Steps: 1 B Strap (Important) • Adjust the B strap to raise side rings. • Place side rings in the middle of your dog’s sides and behind his shoulders. 2 G Strap • Adjust the G strap to a snug fit (like a comfortable belt). • Reach under your dog with your LEFT hand and grasp the G strap to buckle. • Check for comfort room (one finger under strap) when your dog sits. 3 C Strap (3rd step) Have your dog sit. • Adjust both sides of C strap (carefully) to place leash ring over breast bone. • Do not over-adjust. Your dog needs room in the C strap to sit comfortably. 4 Check Side Rings • If side rings are not slightly higher than leash ring open buckle and shorten B strap. •Lengthen G strap, then buckle. All rights reserved B Label Side Rings G Leash Ring Snap Buckle Helpful Fitting Tips When you pull your leash, the leash ring should move as the C strap slacks over your dog’s shoulder. This gives your dog shoulder room to walk comfortably. Leash Ring Moves Chest Strap Slacks SITTING Dog’s chest expands when sitting, and naturally raises chest strap to a horizontal position. STANDING Side rings are higher than leash ring (chest strap is NOT horizontal). LYING DOWN Chest strap fit does NOT cause pressure on shoulders/legs. Pressure causes dogs to chew strap for relief from pressure. Wrong Fit • C strap too low and too tight. Restricts shoulders/legs. • Side rings and leash ring are at the same level. Side rings should be higher. Copyright ©2015. Softouch Concepts, Inc. All rights reserved Softouch Methods (Patented) To gain the full benefits, we recommend using our harnesses first as a training tool and then for general management and everyday use. Softouch methods gradually give your dog body cues (sensations). The cues give him guidance without stress or discomfort. We suggest working with a trainer familiar with our harnesses and methods for additional assistance and follow up. Dog Safety & Comfort • For extra safety – clip leash to both the harness and a collar. • Snap buckle is placed low to prevent shoulder irritation. • Do not leave on puppies. • Long and retractable leashes are not recommended. If used, clip leash to both the harness and a regular collar. • Chewing of the C strap is a sign it is too tight. • Use the correct size. A dog could slip out of or become tangled if a harness is too large. • Always inspect the harness for possible damage. • Do not leave on dogs around children without supervision. • Do not use as a tie-out. • Nylon webbing should not be used in water – it absorbs water and stretches. • Make sure the snap buckle is closed. • Do not use as a car harness. • Do not use for on-leash running. Possible rubbing and chafing, especially short-haired dogs. Copyright ©2015. Softouch Concepts, Inc. All rights reserved • Do not alter or repair a harness yourself. Please call us for our affordable repair service; 866-305-6145. Introduction & Safety At first, use a regular flat collar with the harness. Clip leash to TOP of ring on harness and to ring on collar. The collar may need to be loosened slightly. • Prevents the leash from pulling straps against front legs. • Offers safety for unexpected behaviors. • Prevents too much load on the chest strap. • Prevents chewing the chest strap while walking. Collar To phase out the collar, clip to harness and feed leash up through collar. We recommend clipping to the collar for high stimulus environments. Copyright ©2015. Softouch Concepts, Inc. All rights reserved Getting Started (1-4) Instead of starting with a long walk, we suggest doing quick sessions. This is especially good for puppies and distracted dogs. Start in a quiet place to help your dog focus on his sense of touch. Use the Front-Connection; pull your leash forward, side ways, and upward - not backward. 1.Front-Connection & Attention – Clip leash to collar and harness – FACE your dog – Take the slack out of your leash – Step backward 2 - 3 steps – Encourage your dog to follow you Give your dog a treat/praise! 2.Begin with CIRCLES 1 2 – Clip leash to collar and harness – Start with your dog BEHIND you – Take the slack out of your leash – Walk in a CIRCLE to the right – Encourage your dog to follow you Do not jerk or pop the leash – When your dog gets beside you, stop walking and put slack in your leash Give your dog a treat/praise! 3.Forward/Stop Do not start with a loose leash – Pull your leash gently upwards to take the “slack out” of your leash (This helps keep your dog close to you) – Walk forward 3 to 4 steps – Stop walking and put slack in your leash Give your dog a treat/praise! 4.Left Turn – When your dog is on your LEFT, lay your leash against the RIGHT side of your dog’s neck – Push your leash to the LEFT - Like neck-reining a horse Copyright ©2015. New Concepts ® Stress-free horse training concepts helped us create an original approach that gives dogs consistent guidance. Dogs and horses have a similar response to sense of touch. Your dog feels the harness like horses feel a rider’s leg pressure. This helps him sense how to follow the leash. New Connections ® Softouch harnesses create a new connection between you and your dog. Other products work against relationships by using restraint and discomfort to discourage behavior. Softouch harnesses instead, work with your dog’s instincts to keep him comfortable. Both you and your dog experience stressfree walks, training, and companionship!
