Gist of Application for investment approval for
Rangit Stage-IV Hydro-electric Project (3x40 MW) at Sikkim
Jal Power Corporation Limited (JPCL) is setting up 120MW Rangit Stage-IV Hydro-electric Project in the state of Sikkim in
District West/South Sikkim on Build-Own-Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis under Joint Sector with the Government of
Sikkim. The project is run of the river type with diurnal pondage envisaging installation of 3 nos. Francis turbine driven
generating unit of 40 MW each at a rated head of 103.67m in a surface power station. A long-term Power Purchase
Agreement for 25 years has been signed by JPCL with M/s. Tata Power Trading Company Limited who have further signed
an agreement with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited for back to back sale of power. Application
for in-principle clearance for the first stage investment approval for the Rangit Stage-IV Hydro-electric Project (3x40 MW)
has been submitted to the West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission and the application has been admitted by the
Commission.
