Lily Tran Occasionally something unexpected occurs in life that makes all the difference in the world. That was the case for Lily Tran, an associate broker/manager with EXIT Kingdom Realty in Forest Hills. Lily’s aunt and uncle ran a small, mom-and-pop real estate company. Lily was 19 years old and in college, majoring in international advertising and marketing, when her uncle was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She stepped in to help while her aunt went back and forth to the hospital. Once she got into it, she loved it! And still does, 16 years later. “Because of real estate, I was able to invest in properties at a young age,” she says. “And now that I have a fiveyear-old and three-year-old, I can pick them up after school and still have time to enjoy dinner with the kids.” A seasoned pro, Lily has plenty of referrals. She’s seen the Internet improve as a source, too. People like to read what others say, and her name comes up first now on Trulia. “Having a lot of reviews by other people has helped dramatically,” she says. She stays connected with her market and clients through mail campaigns. “Educating the consumer about real estate trends is important in this volatile market,” she says. “Building relationships is key, and staying connected after a transaction is completed is even more important.” Integrity guides Lily’s path. Because REALTORS® have a less-than-stellar reputation, she’s careful to be honest and straightforward. “Lots of agents tell people what they want to hear, rather than what they should expect,” she says. “I’m not the type to inflate prices to win your business, then let you down.” On top of that, she responds to people right away. “They need guidance,” she says, “especially when they’re dealing with such a large investment.” Her excellent reputation and marketing strategy have catapulted Lily into the top 100 EXIT International (U.S. and Canada) agents three years in a row, from 2011–13 and most likely 2014. On top of that, in 2014 her business grew significantly and she was named a Top Producing Agent in the downstate region, comprising 35 offices and more than 1,000 agents. Appreciative of her success, she gladly supports her company in sponsoring the Cub Scouts and supporting Habitat for Humanity. “We have a wonderful system,” she says. “When any transaction is closed, a portion is automatically taken out and given to Habitat for Humanity. In addition to money, we put in our time. I dedicated some hours to builds in New Jersey a few years ago.” When she’s not on the job, Lily and her husband love to travel—something they did more frequently before the kids arrived. Now they’ve turned their passion for adventure toward food, exploring the myriad cuisines New York has to offer. It’s hard with their crazy schedules, but they try to go out for nice dinners and keep up with all the restaurants reviewed in the New York Times. Lily can afford to be a foodie—she’s into rock climb ing, and her personal goals include climbing “a real mountain,” the Shawangunks. Putting her best foot forward in business, fitness and life, Lily is anticipating her best year yet.
