NBCC TO SET UP NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY
SHRI SUBODH KANT SAHAY,MINISTER OF FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES AND SHRI
ARUP ROY CHOUDHURY, CMD NBCC, WITNESS THE MOU SIGNING
The ambitious project of creating an international standard National
Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management
(NIFTEM) at Kundli, Sonipat (Haryana) has been taken up by the Ministry
of Food Processing Industries. An MoU to this effect, has been signed
recently by Shri Gautam Sanyal, Joint Secretary, on the Ministry’s behalf
and by Shri A.K.Mittal, General Manager of the public sector construction
giant, NBCC, in presence of S/Shri Subodh Kant Sahay, Minister of Food
Processing Industries and CMD of NBCC, Arup Roy Choudhury. NBCC will
implement the project in 100 acres of land at an estimated cost of around
Rs.240 crore. This will be an Apex Institute in the area of Food Technology,
Entrepreneurship and Management. It will offer degree course in food
technology as per the technical curriculum to be set by Cornell University of
USA. The institute will also carry out R & D in frontier areas, develop new
products,
offer
high
quality
educational,
research
and
management
programmes specific to food industry, provide referral advice on food
:2:
standards, disseminate knowledge on the food sector and provide business
incubation facility. The institute will benefit stakeholders including domestic
industry, exporters, entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises, existing
Academic & Research Institutions and Government. Completion schedule of
the project is March, 2009.
