The Toy that Math Built
Thursday, May 28th
6:00-7:15 p.m.
Rick Hartman, a teacher-turned-toymaker, will be visiting Lackamas
to present the “School of Toy” assembly during the school day to all
students.
That evening, families are invited back to join Rick for a “Family
Night Build-a-Toy Workshop”! Kids (and adults) of all ages will be
busy hammering, sawing, building, decorating, and playing! Rick
will surprise us with a “mystery project” to build at the Family Night.
The cost will be $5.00 per toy built. Students must be accompanied
by an adult.
Friday, June 5th
6:00-8:00 p.m.
You’re invited! Mark your calendar now for this end-of-the-year
extravaganza! We will be celebrating Lackamas turning 100 with a
night of fun for our Lackamas families! There will be inflatables,
carnival games, hot dog dinner, snow cones, cotton candy, and much
more!!! Wear your Lackamas shirts! This will be a free event for
Lackamas families. Students must be accompanied by an adult.

Neon Day: Wear neon colors!
Wednesday, May 27
No School: YEA “Day of Action” (see below for info
about “Outrageous Sock Day”)
Thursday, May 28
Picnic Day: Eat your lunch outside on a blanket or
towel!
Friday, May 29
Queen for a Day: Girls are treated like royalty!
But what about “Outrageous Sock Day”?
Having no school on May 27th will have an impact on
our Alphabet Countdown. We will continue the
countdown as it appears on the original calendar,
skipping “Outrageous Sock Day” on Wednesday, May
27th and continuing with “Picnic Day” on Thursday,
May 28th. But have no fear...you will still get to wear
your outrageous socks!!! On Thursday, June 11th
(now a full school day), we will have a second letter
“Y” Day called “You still get to wear your Outrageous
Socks”! This will bump letter “Z” Day to Friday, June
12th (now a half day, and the last day of school). We
hope this will clear up any confusion and avoid any
disappointment!
No School
Wednesday, May 27th
YEA “Day of Action”
The Yelm Education Association (YEA) has
voted to approve a “Day of Action.” This is a one day
walk-out to protest the Legislature’s failure to adhere to
the State’s Constitutional mandate to fully fund public
education. The YEA has made it clear that this is not an
action against the Yelm School District.
The Day of Action will take place on Wednesday, May
27th. There will be no school that Wednesday or any
school-related activities. We will still serve students 180
days, by extending the calendar one day. Thursday,
June 11th will now be a full day instead of a half day of
school. The last day of school will be Friday, June 12th,
which will be a half day of school.
The teachers plan a number of public activities around
the area. If you have additional questions about the Day
of Action or their events, please contact the YEA president Mike Snodgrass at 360-359-1483.
