NOTE: You may want to print out this email and attached documents as there is important information
for ordering AP Exams.
It is that time again for the AP Exams to be ordered. In an effort to provide continued high quality
education to students in your district, FLVS has developed procedures regarding ordering, paying for,
and administering Advanced Placement exams in accordance with The College Board guidelines. FLVS
is not allowed by the College Board to order or administer AP Exams. Please advise all school
counselors/test coordinators in your district that they should order the AP Exams for their FLVS
students. In addition public schools are responsible for ordering exams for Home Schooled students
residing in their zone and taking AP exams. All strategies and responsibilities of schools and districts
will help ensure the success for students when taking AP courses with FLVS.
FLVS offered fourteen Advanced Placement courses this year to over two thousand students, many of
whom may not have otherwise been able to take these courses due to the limited resources and qualified
instructors at their zoned school. Often times, districts are finding it more economical to allow students
to take their AP coursework through FLVS rather than having the expense of hiring a certified and
qualified teacher to instruct a small number of students.
FLVS Advanced Placement Policy:
One goal of FLVS has always been to provide advanced course work, including Advanced Placement
(AP) courses, to Florida students. FLVS is proud to consistently exceed the state and national qualifying
rates for students taking AP Exams. Unfortunately, some students have used the weighted AP courses
for purposes other than college readiness. We believe that students should have the entire AP
experience, including the AP Exam. Therefore, effective January 1, 2009, FLVS is actively enforcing our
policy regarding credit for AP courses. To earn AP course credit, students will be required to take the
appropriate AP Exam in May. Without verification of exam participation, “Honors” rather than AP
credit will be issued.
Verification forms for exam participation will be distributed to students in April 2012. Students who do
not plan to take the AP Exam should immediately notify their FLVS instructors. They will be placed in
the "honors" level of the course with the same instructor and their grades and work will be transferred
as well.
Districts and schools may pull a report of the students currently taking or having completed an FLVS
AP course during the 2011-2012 school year. Use the AP Enrollment report (under Reports /
Enrollment Reports) in your FLVS account to review the students taking AP courses from your school.
These active and completed students will also receive an email from FLVS reminding them to notify
their school counselor that an exam needs to be ordered. In addition, FLVS students will be sent a
"Request for AP Test Order" form to give to their counselor indicating that an AP Exam will need to be
ordered for that student. Home educated students have been instructed to contact their zoned school to
have exams ordered. Please advise these students according to your district procedures. You have
always done a great job of this in the past, and we will continue to work with you to ensure every
student has the opportunity to take the exam.
Good news again! Florida Virtual School will continue to reimburse your district for each exam
ordered for an FLVS student. Each school/test coordinator will need to complete the FLVS invoice and
send it directly to FLVS. The link to the FLVS AP Invoice is:
http://www.flvs.net/areas/studentservices/advisement/Documents/2012_Exam_Invoice.pdf
Click on the link above or copy and paste into your browser. Then you can print as many copies of the
invoice as you need. (Invoice form has also been included in the last page of this document.)
Each school will fill in its contact information, and list the names of the students, student date of birth,
exam participation confirmation and the exam ordered. NOTE: It is the responsibility of each
individual school to submit its completed invoice to FLVS. District contacts are not required to
compile this data.
Reimbursements will be sent to the district office to be dispersed accordingly; private schools will
directly receive their reimbursement. Completed invoices should be mailed, emailed, or faxed to Florida
Virtual School.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if a student took an AP course with FLVS that our school does not offer?
The school that the student attends will be responsible for ordering and administering the exam
regardless if that school offers a particular course. The student has benefited from being able to take this
course through FLVS and thus should not be penalized in any way in regards to opportunities to take the
exam. Schools may nevertheless feel free to work with students and neighboring schools which are
administering the exam, to allow students to take the exam at the neighboring school. Any students
taking an FLVS AP course will need to order their exam through their school counselor/testing
coordinator using the form below by March 1, 2012.

Do schools need to order and administer AP exams for homeschooled students?
Yes. Students enrolled in home education programs who have taken an AP course with FLVS, will need
an exam ordered. Districts may use their discretion to test at the student’s zoned school or an alternative
site where a particular exam is offered. FLVS will direct homeschooled students to contact the zoned
school guidance counselor or test coordinator for assistance. FLVS students have been provided with
the following AP Exam Order Form and must return to their zoned school counselor/testing coordinator
by March 1, 2012.

Will FLVS reimburse our school for the AP exams?
Yes. Florida Virtual School will reimburse the district, and the district will reimburse the school of
record the cost of ordering the exams for all students who took their AP course with FLVS. The Link to
the FLVS AP Invoice is:

Click on the link above or copy and paste into your browser. You can then print as many copies of the
invoice as you need. (Invoice form has also been included in the last page of this document.)
Do I need to be a vendor with the state in order to be reimbursed?
Yes. NOTE: If you have been reimbursed in the past by FLVS for AP Exams, you already have a
vendor application on file. If this is the first time you have students taking AP courses with FLVS, you
will need to submit a vendor application. Please contact Sandra Willis at 407.513-3447 or email Sandra
at [email protected] to obtain a vendor application.
What are the deadlines for ordering materials from College Board?
Please refer to the College Board website for further information regarding deadlines, registration, or
any other relevant questions.
