wQMwgeKAMwAw&iact=mrc&uact=8 1) Industrialization in Britain What happened was that machinery became a big part in society. Manufacturing was often done in people’s homes, using handtools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, specialpurpose machinery, factories and mass production. It allows people to produce more goods. This had happened in Britain. This started in the 1700’s but continued growing in the 18th and 19th century. This happened because people wanted to produce more goods in less time, so they made machines to help them out with that which grew into factories. This is a big part in society because everything we own was produced on some machine or built in some kind of factory. This doesn't really connect too much to the other events. 2) Italian and German Unification Prussia enacted a tariff law abolishing all internal customs dues and announced its willingness to establish free trade with neighbouring states. A decade later Prussia signed the first such pact with HesseDarmstadt. In 1828 a customs union was set up in southern Germany. Eventually Italy had joined the zollverein. This event took place in Germany. This event took place in 1828, which was the main part of it. All of the states wanted to be a part of the trade agreement and they had 18 states join. This wasn’t as significant to our history such as the Industrialization. This doesn’t really connect to other events on this timeline. 3) Opium wars two armed conflicts in China fought. This was between China and great Britain. Foreign traders had been illegally exporting opium mainly from India to China, but that trade grew dramatically from 1820. The widespread addiction in China was causing serious social and economic disruption. In March 1839 the Chinese government confiscated and destroyed more than 20,000 chests of opium—some 1,400 tons of the drug. This happened out in Europe. This had happened in the 18th century. Britain was trying to drug the chinese and attack them. This is significant because it was a new way to defeat an enemy. This connects to other wars such as cuban independence. 4) Meiji Restoration The emperor Meiji and his ministers moved the royal court from Kyoto to Tokyo, and dismantled feudalism, and enacted widespread reforms along Western models. The newly unified Japanese government also set off on a path of rapid industrialization and militarization, building Japan into a major world power. This took place in Japan. This happened on January 3rd, 1868. They did this to improve industrialization and their military. This is significant to us because we also try to strengthen our military by giving up things. This event is similar to the opium wars in china 5) Cuban Independence What happened was, the Cuban Liberation Army had defeated the Spanish colonial army. Spain was not able to sustain the war from a military, economic or political point of view. This event happened in spanish soil. The main event happened in 1898 when the cuban army defeated the spanish army. By 1902, the treaty was gone and it gave freedom to cuba. Why did this happen? It allows Cubans to have women’s rights, peoples rights, and most importantly country freedom. This is a significant part of history because since cuba is a territory of U.S Government, and if Cuba was still under treaty of defeated by spanish army, the U.S may not be a part of Cuba. This connects to other events like the Opium war because it was a battle.
