Good luck to all the participants. Western Valley Atom A 2016 Tournament Rules 1. General Information 1.1. Teams line up at centre ice shake hands after each game. 1.2. Game awards will be awarded at the conclusion of each game. • Both teams are asked to line up on their respective blue line, • Each team is responsible to pick their own game MVP and present that name to the referees at the conclusion of each game. 1.3. All teams must dress a minimum of ten players, including the goaltender(s), for each tournament game unless permission has been granted by the Tournament Committee. 1.4. Proof of age for any player participating in the tournament must be provided upon request to the Tournament Committee for review and verification. 1.5. Only players registered on the official tournament roster may participate in the tournament. 1.6. Any team that does not show for a game will lose by default with a score of 5-0. 1.7. The coach will have their team dressed 15 minutes before the scheduled game time – if the tournament is running ahead of schedule, games may run up to 15 minutes ahead at the discretion of the tournament committee. 1.8. The coach and team will vacate the dressing room 20 minutes after the game and leave it in a clean state. 1.9. Tournament Committee will determine the Home teams in round robin play. The team with the higher standing will be the home team in the playoff games. 2. Game Play .2.1. A three-minute warm-up period for each tournament game will be provided as soon as the ice is ready. Time will be posted on the time clock, so the players must be ready. 2.2. All games will be three 15 minute stop time periods. 2.3. In the event that one team is leading by five goals or more at any time in the third period, time will revert to straight time. If the margin narrows to three goals, the time will revert to stop time. 2.4. No body checking is permitted in the Tournament. 2.5. The ice will be resurfaced every two periods. 2.6. No timeouts will be allowed during the initial round robin or Semi-Finals games. 2.7. One 1-minute timeout per team during the championship game. 3. General Rules 3.1. Should any situation arise that is not covered by these tournament rules, the Hockey Canada (HC) Regulations or the Hockey Nova Scotia (HNS) Regulations will apply and the Tournament Chair will make a ruling. 3.2. All decisions of the Tournament Chair are final and may not be appealed. 3.3. No protests or appeals will be entertained by the Tournament Committee. 3.4. The Tournament Chair reserves the right to modify any rules herein, which is deemed not in the best interest of the tournament. 3.5. No protests will be considered during the tournament, however, the tournament chair will consider any logical grievance or acceptance. 3.6. Each team is guaranteed to be scheduled a minimum three games. 3.7. A travel permit is required for all teams travelling from outside the Western Valley Minor Hockey Association area. 3.8. The Tournament Committee is not responsible for any delays or cancellations due to weather, power outages, technical difficulties, etc… 3.9. The Tournament Committee will try to make up for any lost games, but the Tournament Chair has the right to change the game schedules as required. For example – Cancelled games may not be rescheduled and playoff games may be eliminated with the top two teams advancing to play in the championship game. There is no guarantee that all games will be played. 3.10.Western Valley will be conducting 50/50 draws throughout the tournament. 4. Conduct 4.1. All HC and HNS Regulations plus the HNS Code of Discipline will apply. 4.2. Team officials will be held responsible for the conduct of his/her team while in the arena, dressing rooms and on the ice. 4.3. The Tournament Chair or their designate will report all suspensions to the HNS within twenty-four (24) hours of the infraction. Players or coaches who are suspended from play under HNS Regulations prior to the tournament are not allowed to play in the tournament until their official suspension is completed. It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure suspended players do not play. 4.5. If a player or team official does participate in any tournament game while under suspension, their team will forfeit the game by a score of 5-0 and the violating team will be suspended from the tournament. 4.6. Any player or team official who, in the opinion of the tournament committee displays poor sportsmanship or sets a bad example will be subject to tournament suspension. 5. Tournament Format 5.1. Each team will play in a round robin format. 5.2. The Tournament Committee will divide teams into two pools of three teams. During the initial round robin, all teams in Pool A will play each team Pool B (three games). 5.3. Following the round robin, teams will be ranked one through three in Pool A and one through three in Pool B based on points, and if required using the tiebreaker formulas below. 5.4. The playoff round will consist of: • 1 Semi-final game #1- 1st place team in Pool A plays the 2nd place team in Pool B. • Semi-final game #2 - 1st place team in Pool B plays the 2nd place team in Pool A. • Championship Game – Winner of Semi-final #1 plays the winner of Semi-final #2. 6. Rankings and Tie-Breakers 6.1. During the initial round robin teams will get: 1. 2 points for win; 2. 1 point for a tie; 3. 0 points for a loss. 6.2. Teams will be ranked in each pool with the team having the highest number of points placing first, the second highest number of points placing second and so on. 6.3. In round robin play, a maximum of +6 will be recognized per game when calculating plus minus (GF-GA). 6.4. Tiebreakers at the end of Round Robin Play 6.4.1. If two teams are tied: 1. The winner of the games between the two teams 2. Highest +/- for all games (GF-GA) 3. Least goals against (GA) in all games 4. Most goals for (GF) in all games 5. Least penalty minutes 6. Coin toss. 6.4.2. If three teams are tied: 1. Highest +/- for all games (GF-GA) 2. Least goals against (GA) in all games 3. Most goals for (GF) in all games 4. Least penalty minutes 6.5. Tiebreakers for Playoff Games (Semi-final and Championship) 6.5.1. 5 minute four-on-four straight time sudden death overtime period. 6.5.2. If still tied a 3-player shootout will occur: 1. The home team will have the choice whether to shoot first or second. Note, if there is a player with penalty time remaining from the overtime period, they are not eligible for the first round of the shoot out. 2. If still tied, a sudden victory shootout will occur. Home team will have the choice whether to shoot first or second.
