June 15, 2016 Dear 4-Her, We would like to invite you to attend our 4-H Sewing and Foods Camps. Both Camps will held at the Juab Junior High School CTE Building, FACS room. 1. Sewing Camp: Tuesday, July 5, for youth who have finished 4 th-12th grades. Times: 8 am – 12 noon, or 1- 5 pm. Each 4-Her is required to bring a parent or volunteer to help with sewing project. For this camp you will need to choose ONE of the projects listed below. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a sewing service project for local donation. There will be a resource table with samples and patterns to take home to sew on your own. Call the Extension office at 623-3450 by Monday, July 4, noon, and tell us which sewing project you want to do. Please bring your own thread, scissors, pins, measuring tape, and seam gauge. Also bring the fabric and list of needed supplies with you for the following project you have chosen: *Amount of fabric needed depends on the size you are making. Call the office for exact amount needed. Pajama Pants with Contrast at bottom: (for up to Junior size 9/10) 1 1/2 yards of 60" wide or 2 yards of 45" fabric, plus ¼ of a yard of contrasting fabric for the bottom the pajamas, if desired, 1 yard of 3/4" non-roll waistband elastic, and thread to match. Simplicity pattern available for $1. Over T-shirt Cami Top or Sundress: Cami top: 1 yard of 60” fabric or 2 yards of 45” fabric. Sundress: measure the desired length of the dress. This is the amount of fabric needed for 60” wide fabric, double the length for 45” wide fabric. All: thread to match, 2 yards of ¼” cording. Straight Skirt (long or short) with elastic waist: 1 yard of fabric for short or mid-calf length skirt or 1 ¼ yard of fabric for long skirt, 1 yard of ¾” waistband elastic, and thread to match. Extender for Skirt or Dress (worn under skirt or dress to make longer): 1 yard of fabric for short or mid-calf length skirt or 1¼ yard of fabric for long skirt, 1 yard of ¾” waistband elastic, and thread to match. For lace measurement, measure widest part of hips, and add 3 inches to that measurement. This is how many inches of lace you will need. Example: Junior size 4/6 hip measurement is 34. Add 5” to the hip measurement of 34”, and purchase 39”+ (add a few inches to be safe) of lace for 1 row. Lace should be at least 3” wide. Can do 1 or 2 rows of lace (double measurement for 2 rows). Can use flat or gathered lace, or eyelet. 2. Foods Camp: Tuesday, July 19, for youth who have finished 3rd-12th grade. Times: 9am - 12 noon or 1 - 4 pm. Registration deadline for the Foods Camp is Monday, July 14th. Registration cost is $6.00 (optional recipe box--$5.00). We are going to prepare a “Mexican Fiesta” meal*, learn about cake decorating and discuss measuring and cooking substitutes. Please come to the Extension office to register. If you have any questions prior to registering, please call the office at 623-3450. *Please notify the office if your youth has allergies.
