Recent MHCC Events:
September 7 - 11, 2016 – Triple Tree Aerodrome
The MHCC had a great event this year at Triple Tree. We had over 11 vehicles show up. The weather
was nice and there were many planes to view. There was a fly in done by a Bell UH1 – ‘Huey’ that was
an outstanding bird! There was also the Curtiss C-46 Commando “Tinker Bell” that flew in and did
flybys on Sat.
We held the second of our two MHCC organizational yearly meetings.
Last year we elected officers for a two year term. At that time Doug Imes was elected President of
MHCC and Alan Spearman Vice President. At the end of two years the Vice President will rotate to be
President and a new Vice President will be elected.
For a number of months starting in 2016 Doug’s career schedule ramped up beyond what he expected
back when elected in 2015. He has not been happy with the situation as he wants to do his best for
MHCC. Doug decided to resign from the President role of the MHCC and brought that to the
organization meeting. It was a sad moment as all of us know Doug’s heart is for our organization but he
feels at this time he can’t do the job he wanted to do for MHCC. Doug did say he still wishes to be
President at a future date.
His resignation was accepted and Alan succeeded Doug as the President of MHCC.
It was then brought to the floor to nominate Doug as the Vice President; it was seconded and approved
by the meeting members.
The members also voted to order four more vehicle banners; these are the ones that can fit on the side
boards of a 3/4 ton or larger truck.
It was also decided to purchase additional metal folding chairs which will be painted OD and have the
MHCC decal applied.

In addition it was brought up and passed to accept and order the guidon flag that Pam Davis had
designed.
The Flag will be 17.5 across and 11.5 tall and will be used to represent MHCC at events. We will have 5
flags that will go with the MHCC banners. One flag will be at the museum to fly during open hours.
At a later date we will offer vehicle flags for members to purchase. The details of those are not decided
on as of this publish.
It was also brought up that Master Chief C.C. Wheeler has made a number of donations to MHCC. A
motion was made and passed to award him with a certificate of appreciation for his continual support of
this organization.
Members were reminded that we will start accepting 2017 dues, (Now $20), will receive ID cards, and
that everyone should review and sign the MHCC safety policy.
Dues can be mailed to:

Special thanks go out to the Eilders for their outstanding work in preparing food throughout the current
Triple Tree weekend.
Kevin Elder extended his invitation for what has become the annual camp out at the Eilder’s farm. Due
to how busy MHCC is during this time of year he proposed we move it to the spring. When we learn
more of the event we will be sure to let the MHCC members know the details.

Museum Update:
We are happy to report that there is only about 20 % more to be demolished of the interior, and then
the work will be finished. We accomplished this because of all the help received/given by members of
the MHCC during previous workdays.
We will be having another workday on Saturday, 8 Oct 2016 from about 0830 hrs thru approximately
1300 hrs (depending on the weather/heat). If you are available please come and help out. The next
workday should complete the critical part of the demolition. There is some minor work that will remain
but those can be easily done later. We can now proceed with other initiatives while that work is being
accomplished.
The museum board is currently looking for an architectural firm to develop detailed plans for the reconstruction of the interior. We need these plans to contain enough detail to allow a quote for
determining the cost of the re-construction. This cost will help us know what our near term fund raising
goals will be. The board is also working to upgrade the museum sign to make it more durable and better
reflect our efforts to establish the museum for the community.
The museum will be open for the 21-23 Oct 2016 event at the Greenville Downtown airport - the MHCC
will be supporting the event with a World War II display (vehicles & equipment) on the airfield [note:
there will also be a P-51, B-17, & B-24 at the airfield]. Additionally, the MHCC will have displays of more
modern vehicles/equipment at the museum building for the public to view and hopefully make
donations. Thanks for all your support! Wayne Scholtes & Sam Cooper - Co-Directors, Museum Advisory Board

Vehicle Stories:
- For this month I thought we would take a look back to where we have come from.
Back when we were still just a club:
Getting nostalgic got me to thinking how we all get to know each other. Back around 2004 I was by
myself working on an M38A1 that I had, you saw the restoration in NetCall.

My only outlet was to log into the G503 web site and read about M38A1s. That got me to reading the
other areas of the website but I had no idea that there was a whole group of folks like me in the SC
Upstate area. (Make sure we contact anyone we think that might be interested in our organization!)
One day I was looking at a post from a guy, who lived in Simpsonville, he needed to borrow a rear hub
puller for his M38A1 he was working on. I sent him a private message and later that week I was on my
way to Toby’s house. Now I didn’t know this guy from Adam, and I was not going to leave my hub puller
with him so we used it right then. He got his hubs off and I made a friend that led me to Jamie Neal and
the MHCC.
That led me to join the organization in 2008 and to the 2009 meeting of the then club and the photo
above. My first event was the 2008 armed forces day in downtown Greenville. That’s me in the
background trying my best to do a 1943 signal corps impression. The next picture is Toby and Jamie
talking.
I can’t think about these old times without thinking about the tragic events in Jaime’s life that end up
with him leaving us in the fall of 2012.
One of the last things he sent to me was where he took all his vehicles and posed them for a line up in
his front yard. Bless you Jamie for all the work you did. Sorry you had to leave us so soon.
