At a time when additional funds were needed for building our dear Mother Church, notice
was given to the Field and funds poured in. Of that experience, Mrs. Eddy wrote: “There
was no urging, begging, or borrowing; only the need made known, and forth came the
money, …” (Pulpit and Press, p. 8). Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association which is
devoted to Christian Science healing and spiritual growth in all of its services is making
the need known that there is a present urgent need for considerable cash donations.
Over the past several years we have strengthened our Christian Science nursing services and
have taken significant steps to strengthen the BA’s finances. These steps have included:
• reducing annual expenses by well over one million dollars;
• maintaining very strict control over expenses; and
• reducing our loan by almost four million dollars, leaving a balance of eleven million.
The loan was incurred when the BA was required to have a new Christian Science
nursing building in order to completely separate residents and patients.
Recently, we had an independent assessment of the BA’s finances completed and are working
with significant changes necessary to stabilize and bring long-term viability to this
organization. We are confident that with these changes, financial stability of the BA is
possible. However, while undergoing this restructuring we need $550,000 in donations by
the end of this year, and an additional $1.5 million in donations by June 30, 2014. Your
support is vital to the survival of the BA.

Our Christian Science nursing services and other programs have continued to actively
support healing as they have since 1919 when the BA was first established by the Christian
Science Board of Directors. You will find inspiring testimonies of healings witnessed here at
the BA by visiting: www.chbenevolent.org/testimonies.
With love and gratitude for your timely consideration.
