Technical Information PS09 Performance Colors and Glass Nickel - Free Green 50 Pigment Green 50 Pigments have traditionally contained nickel as a color modifier. Due to health concerns about nickel and especially nickel titanium trioxide, Ferro has developed Pigment Green 50 products which are free of nickel. These products fall within the traditional description of Pigment Green 50: Cobalt Titanate Green Spinel (EC 269-047-4, CAS 68186-85-6, C.I. 77377). As the constituent materials do not contain intentionally added nickel compounds, these products are not classified as hazardous under EU REACH and CLP. The product codes for these new nickel free greens are: The new pigments have excellent chemical resistance, outdoor durability, light fastness, heat stability and are non-bleeding, non-migratory and UV stable. They are all-purpose pigments, suggested applications include R-PVC, polyolefins and engineering resins. These pigments cause no warpage even in large injection-moulded or extruded parts. PS 21-5801 Ni free Pigment green PS 21-5901 Ni free Pigment green The new pigments also exhibit higher reflection at wavelengths greater than 700 nm (IR region) than nickel containing pigments and can therefore also be recommended for heat management applications. We encourage our customers to test these pigments in new or existing formulations. Our technical laboratory team are available to help facilitate the easy replacement of any nickelcontaining green pigment products with new nickel free formulations. Their outstanding fastness rating makes these pigments ideally suited for plastics resistant to both weathering and heat, notably for shading as well as for mass tone. It makes it particularly suitable for Paints and Coatings including General Industrial, Coil and Extrusion coatings. Another suggested field of application is for architectural finishes, both water- and solvent-based. Compounding ingredients, their concentrations and the overall results have, however, not been optimized for production purposes. Different or additional raw materials may be required for manufacturing suitable finished articles. The guide formulations are based on European formulations with raw materials commonly used in Europe. For further information on these products, the raw material supplier should be contacted directly.
