Bayer MaterialScience is the world leader in polyurethanes
with a unique in-depth knowhow in production and synthesis
of polyurethanes. In fact, BAYER has invented Polyurethanes
in 1937. The latest product of this technology advantage is
BAYCUSAN® C, a product range of polyurethane dispersions
and polyurea powder for a large number of cosmetic
formulations.
The BAYCUSAN® C product line is truly diverse: It is designed
for use in skin care, sun care, hair care and color cosmetic
applications. BAYCUSAN® C polyurethanes meet many
challenges of formulating elegant and up to date cosmetic
products due to their versatility and beautiful aesthetics.
Loss of lustrous shine and split hair ends are annoying
characteristics of hair damaged by styling tools, such
as hot irons, curlers and blow dryers. Thus, restoring and
protecting hair’s healthy appearance against applied high
temperatures have become a functional priority of leavein treatments. Baycusan® C 1008 formulated into a heat
activated milk will
preserve the original
shine and effectively
repair split ends.

forming a protective
coating on hair that
makes it feel revived,
soft and non-sticky.
GENTLE CoNdITIoNING ANd STYLING foR dAMAGEd hAIR
Conditioning products formulated with the waterborne
polyurethane dispersion Baycusan® C 1008 give hair elastic
and natural hold. They also repair split ends, protect hair
against heat and significantly enhance shine.
The sister product, Baycusan® C 1001, is designed for
formulating highly effective conditioning products that give
hair a natural shine and healthy appearance. Unruly hair is
easier to comb and has a flexible feel. A comb or brush glides
much more smoothly through the hair treated with Baycusan®
C 1001 based products than with conventional conditioners
based on acrylate copolymers.

Low-VoC AERoSoL hAIR SPRAYS
A competitive
advantage of
Baycusan® C
1008 dispersion
is its anti-frizz
properties, which
last for up to
24 hours, even
in 90 percent
humidity. In leavein conditioners,
silicone oil is
often used to
achieve this
effect. However,
Baycusan®
dispersions also
enable silicone oilfree formulations
to form a
protective film on
the hair fibers. The
film’s non-greasy
texture gives hair
a flexible feel
and breathtaking
shine.
Bayer MaterialScience has developed low-VOC aerosol
hairstyling formulations offering natural hold imparted by
its Baycusan® C 1008 polymer. Baycusan® C 1008 tolerates
high levels of water without increasing viscosity, which
makes it especially suitable for use in DME-based low-VOC
aerosol formulations. Baycusan® C 1008 shows excellent
compatibility with HFC 152a.
In fact, Baycusan® C 1008 is ideal for a wide range of
cosmetic formulations, including aerosol sprays, pump set
sprays, styling creams, styling lotions, waxes and gels.
