Why the Y Day Camp? Scampers YMCA day camps create experiences that will last a lifetime. Our child centered approach to day camp is based on the principals of YMCA Healthy Child Development. Our talented and engaging staff team have a criminal record check, Standard First Aid and CPR and go through a week of camp oriented training to ensure your children receive the high level of care you expect. Our Scampers camp is located at the Strathroy-Caradoc Family YMCA, Marilyn Buttery Branch. This introduction to camp provides your child the opportunity to meet new friends, participate in fun activities and experience the structure of a full day program. A great transition for children going to school in the fall or for children new to school and need the continued structure throughout the summer. No matter what, your child will have lots of fun! We offer financial assistance for all of our programs, lower ratio of staff support to children with special needs, extended care (which is free for YMCA members), field trips and entertainment throughout the summer. YMCA day camp is the best way to play, build relationships and start to develop a healthy lifestyle for your child this summer. (Campers 4-5 years old) • Arts and crafts • Sports • Entertainment • Water games • High energy games • Cooperative games • Story time • Songs and dramatic play • Free choice play stations • Special events day Trailblazers (Campers 6-8 years old) Our Trailblazers camp is located at the Boys Scout House at Alexandra Park. This high energy camp benefits from the resources surrounding it. Campers have the splash pad, baseball and soccer fields, park (includes playground equipment) and the conservation area. Our busiest camp will keep your child engaged and send them home with new stories to tell you every night. • High energy games • Field trips and entertainment • Sports • Cooperative games • Water games • Arts and Crafts • Nature hikes/exploration • Swimming • Theatre/dramatic play • Special events day Mavericks (Campers 9-12 years old) Our Mavericks camp is located at the Strathroy-Caradoc Family YMCA, Marilyn Buttery Branch. This camp caters to our preteens and balances a program that offers the typical fun and silliness of camp with leadership opportunities to nurture your maturing camper. • High energy games • Field trips and entertainment • Sports • Leadership opportunities • Vocational tours/presentations (i.e. Police Station, Dominos) • Cooperative games • Water games • Arts and Crafts • Nature hikes/exploration • Swimming • Theatre/dramatic play • Special events day Art Adventure (Campers 6-12 years old) Location: TBA This camp is for the artsy kid in your house. Your art camper will get an opportunity to explore all elements of their creativity from painting to puppetry and everything in between. Campers will also have the chance to explore their communities and see what a positive impact they can leave behind. Activities include; • Painting • Drawing • Theatre/Dramatic Play • Sculpting • Active & Co-Operative Games • Water Games • Swimming Science Exploration (Campers 6-12 years old) Location: TBA This summer we are focusing on one exciting element of Science each day. This camp is the spot for kids who want to learn more about the world around them and how things work. We will explore, learn and have lots of fun! Each day will explore one of the themes below; • Space Exploration • Prehistoric Party • Our Natural World • Cool Chemistry • Creature Feature Mystery Spy School (Campers 6-12 years old) Location: TBA Step into the shoes of a detective! Become a spy and test out your skills – decoding messages, creating invisible ink and lots of other exciting methods to learn about the science of sleuthing. Our Spy’s in training will have the opportunity to use science to connect to dots unravelling a mystery. The camp week will include a variety of Spy themed games, crafts and activities. International Sports (Campers 6-12 years old) Location: TBA International Sport Campers will have the chance to travel the world without boarding a plane! Each day will teach campers about a Sport from a different location, plus the lots of cool information about the Country it originates from. The daily schedule will include hands on practice and games, crafts and activities relating to the Country of origin, plus a special event – no passport required! Cooking Camp (Campers 6-12 years old) Location: St. John’s Anglican Church, Strathroy Do you have an eager kitchen helper at your house? Cooking Camp is the place for them this summer! Campers will spend half the day creating delicious dishes, learning cooking methods and kitchen safety. The remainder of the day will be filled with exciting camp games and activities. At the end of the week, parents are invited to sample their new chef’s creations at a very special showcase. A material fee of $35 will be applicable for Cooking Camp. Strathroy-Caradoc Family YMCA ymcawo.ca 4:30pm – 5:30pm Optional Extended Care Program • Weekly rates are $145 Y member; $175 non-members per child, at all day camp sites. • Short week rates are $116 Y member; $140 non-members per child, at all day camp sites. • Daily rates are $36 Y members; $48 non-members per child, at all day camp sites. Extended Care Extended care is available at each day camp site from 4:30pm-5:30pm. Extended Care is FREE of charge for YMCA members. The non-member fees for extended care are $20 for a full week (5 days) and $16 for a short holiday week (4 days). Non-member daily extended care fees are included in the camp price. * All camps are CLOSED Monday July 3, 2017 and Monday August 7, 2017. Child Protection Policy You have trusted us with the safety of your child and the YMCA takes that very seriously. Keeping your child safe is our number one priority and many safe guards have been put in place. All of our staff must provide a clean criminal reference check that includes vulnerable sector screening. The camp staff are obligated to document and report any form of child abuse that they witness or suspect, in regards to the campers in our care. The YMCA of Western Ontario has adopted a sign in/out procedure that includes asking all parents, guardians or caregivers, that will pick up a child from camp, to provide a valid piece of photo identification each day. Individuals not authorized to pick up your camper or that refuse to show photo identification, will not be permitted to sign the camper out of program. Camper Behaviour Campers are expected to model the YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, caring and honesty. Campers who can not meet these expectations, or become aggressive or violent will be removed from the camp program. No refunds will be given for campers removed for behavioural reasons. Parent information guides will be emailed upon request. YMCA Strong Kids YMCA Strong Kids is focused on raising much needed funds to give kids the opportunities they need to live healthier, happier lives now.
