2017 Quaker Village Auction Quilts Sunbonnet Sue - 65 x 79 inches Faye Reed, Mary Reed, Billie Farley, Barb Irish This quilt was started in 2001 by the Sryinga Appliqué Group, a group of quilters who have been meeting together since the mid 1980’s in various churches in the community and currently at Cindy’s Quilt Shop. The quilt blocks were hand appliquéd by Eileen Henry, Carol Cana, Faye Reed, Linda Kuster, Billie Farley, Mary Reed, Dorothy Raney, Ali Lann, Lou Rochelle, Rose M Elgin and others in 2001. The quilt was assembled in 2017 by Mary Reed, Beverly Puttman, Robbie Smith and Barb Irish in honor of Eileen Henry. Sunbonnet Sue is a familiar traditional pattern that dates from the 1800’s. It was often found on children’s beds. Sunbonnet Sue is displayed in a variety of everyday activities. She always has a bonnet but no facial expression. However, at a glance one can see whether she is happy, angry, thinking, or speaking love. She is timeless. This quilt can be washed on delicate in a front load washer and laid flat for air drying. Maple Leaf Quilt - 88 x 111 inches Devonne Hibbs, Susan Ankeny, Barb Irish, Doris Wilkins, Kathy Koch, not shown Margie Weinacht Made by Grandmothers of GFA. This is the second year for an up-to-date version of the traditional Maple Leaf Quilt that was made for years by Greenleaf Friends Quilters. In the past a Maple Leaf quilt was made for people going into the Mission Field as a reminder of ongoing prayer support from their Greenleaf family. This quilt is a perfect size for a queen size bed. Its colors work well with multiple color themes. Its care is as easy as putting it in the washer and drier. The batting is wool which makes for a cooler wrap in the summer and warmer in the winter. Fabric for this quilt is cotton batik, donated by Bev Chapman, Joy Lujan, Kathy Koch, Doris Wilkins, Susan Ankeny, Devonne Hibbs, Margie Weinacht and Barb Irish. Marmalade - 50 x 68 inches This delightful quilt was made by Doreen Garrod and quilted by Barb Irish. The quilt top boasts various hand appliqué and machine techniques--made to perfection. It is 100% cotton, can be machine washed on delicate and medium dry. It is a perfect picnic quilt, children’s room quilt, for the chair in the kitchen or for where ever brightening any room with color and joy. Springtime - 56 x 65 inches This colorful spring time quilt was made by Mary Nicks from Bakersfield, California. (She is the great aunt of the Dixon family.) The colors are perfect for brightening up any room, lap, table, bed/bedroom or even picnics. It is 100% cotton made with high quality fabrics. It can be machine washed and tossed into the drier on medium. Sweet Baby - 26 x 31 inches This is a perfect quilt for any baby. It is made with high quality flannel, making it oh so soft and warm. It is 100% cotton and can be washed and dried with ease. Made by Mary Nicks from Bakersfield, California. Tonga Nature - 91 X 102 Inches Tonga Nature is a pattern from “Wing and a Prayer” designs by Jenny Flotz and Toni Kay Steere. The quilt was made and quilted by Mary Nicks from Bakersfield, California. (She is the great aunt of the Dixon family.) It is comprised of high quality Moda and RJR fabrics and is 100% cotton. This is a quilt that will make any bedroom sparkle, coming with two matching pillow cases, increasing its size to accommodate a queen or king mattress. Retro - 49 x 49 inches This retro lap-sized quilt is comprised of 9 patch blocks pieced together, some by hand and some by machine, by Eileen Henry. Barb Irish assembled the blocks into a quilt top, then machine quilted it. It will serve well as a lap quilt, a bed scarf or even as a table topper. It can be washed on delicate in a front load washer and laid to dry. Springtime Softness - 93 x 110 inches This beautiful pastel quilt is 100% cotton with high quality fabric. It has beautiful floral patterns in an array of colors making it a center piece for any bed. The size makes it versatile for either a queen or king bed. It was made by Grandmothers of GFA. Underground Railroad - 60 x 88 inches Civil War Jubilee, Civil War Reunion and Civil War Crossing Fabric Lines by designer Barbara Brackman "The history of the Underground Railroad has included many Quakers who helped aid slaves in their escape to freedom in the North. There are stories told of the history hidden in quilts, which were used to signal messages to runaway slaves. Certain quilt blocks were possibly used as a code to guide the slaves to freedom and safety. Whether part folklore and part history this Underground quilt is beautifully descriptive of those messages and the rich stories of the pursuit of freedom by slaves yearning for a better life." Fabrics selected and pieced by Ellen Morse and machine quilted by Barbara Irish. Rag Quilt - 63 x 81 inches Perfect for your cabin, wall or for just curling up by the fire, this cozy warm flannel quilt is 63 x 81" and incorporates rich woodsy colors in a pleasing flannel rag quilt structure. Pieced and quilted by GFA alumni, Charlotte Lee Breshears, this is a one of a kind feature for today's auction. Friendship Sampler Senior 88 x 108 inches Class Quilt This sampler quilt uses the wonderfully rich and dynamic Greenleaf Friends Academy school colors, black and red, in a beautiful display of a variety of quilt blocks, each one unique. Lynda Taylor, wife of senior class advisor Larry Taylor, created this lovely quilt in honor of each of the 2017 graduating class members, recognizing that each of them is also a unique creation by God.
