Jugar – To Play
The verb ‘jugar’ is considered a “Stem-Changing Verb”
A stem changing verb has a spelling change (u→ue) in all forms except for the nosotros and vosotros
forms.

Stem-changing verbs can also be considered boot verbs because the 4 cases in which the spelling
change occurs are in the shape of a boot - *Draw boot*
Note that the word ‘a’ (to) typically follows the verb jugar when talking about playing a sport.
Ex: Yo juego al baloncesto – I play basketball.
Nosotros jugamos al tenis – We play tennis.
