Welcome to the second edition of ‘Science at Oakway’. Each month we will be setting you challenges, quizzes and experiments that you can do at home. We will also be celebrating brilliant science that is happening at Oakway. Hope you enjoy! Mr Cooper Try our true or false quiz. Write down your answers and give them to Mr Cooper for analysis. There will be a prize for the first person to get all of the answers correct! A massive thank you to our Young Leaders who have helped to introduce, train and run our lunchtime science club. 1. A dry plastic comb 2. An indoor water tap 3. A head full of clean dry hair. 1. The Atlantic Ocean is the biggest ocean on Earth. 2. The human body has four lungs. 3. Herbivores eat meat. 4. The human skeleton is made up of less than 100 bones. 5. Sharks are mammals . Well done to Jacqueline (3A) who was the first person to get all of the answers correct on the last quiz! 1. Turn on the tap and slowly turn down the water until you have a VERY thin stream of water flowing. 2. Take the plastic comb and brush it through your hair ten times. 3. Now slowly bring the comb close to the flowing water, (without actually touching the water) If all goes well, the stream of water should bend towards the comb! Magic you ask? Not really. This is due to something called static electricity. Try to find out what this is. Safety: Be careful not to spill any water as this can become slippery and dangerous. Also be careful of using warm water and always check permission before carrying out any of our experiments. 1. Does water temperature affect how much the water bends?
