Students illustrate a 1 colour design to be screen
printed onto 12 calico tote bags. Each student will
be able to exhibit their tote bags and have them for
sale for $15 each at the A.A.A.S. Exhibition 6 Sept.
Students will keep all money raised from the sale
of their bags. Additional bags can be printed for $5
a piece. This workshop runs in the winter school
holidays

The Sydney exhibition will be held at Bitter Phew (a new beer tap house & gallery) located at 1/137
Oxford Street. The bar has been running since 2013 and has recently expanded to be a gallery space
with artist liaison and booker being Anchors Aweigh's own Trina Collins.
Bitter Phew presents a unique opportunity for artists to exhibit their work in one of Sydney's busiest
and creative areas without the hassle of having to sit galleries, organise catering or pay large hire fees.
BITTER PHEW has two exhibition areas as well as an outdoor courtyard. The A.A.A.S. screen printers
exhibition will be shown in the main room which includes cable hangers for easy install of framed works.

The Wollongong exhibition will be held at Anchors Aweigh Art Studio as part of a one day exhibition and
art event on Saturday 6 September. The event will include the print exhibition as well as live painting,
medium demos, bbq and more.
eg. CREATE AN EDITION OF 25 PRINTS SELL FOR $50 EA
25 x $50 = $1250
Artists can create 5 prints or 50 prints and sell them for $5 or $500... prices are up to you.
Screen print prices depend on many factors including the status of the artist, quantity in the series,
quality of the printing, paper or fabric, number of layers and detail of the print. .
As a guide single layer screen prints on paper usually sell for between $30 - $100 per work and tshirt
prints $20 - $50 per item. It won't take many sales to cover your workshop fees and framing or fabric
expenses. All unsold prints can be collected by the artist at the end of the exhibition from A.A.A.S.
Artists may than sell prints on their website or exhibit elsewhere. Please note that during the exhibition
period we would prefer artists not to be selling or exhibiting the same print elsewhere.

A min 25% non-refundable deposit is required to hold your spot. Fees can be paid in installments, but the full amount must be paid prior
to start of the workshop, email us to arrange a payment plan. Limited spots, small classes, book asap.
Please note that some workshops are spefiic to either paper or fabric (textile) printing. Some workshops are also specific to artists
wanting to hand draw their design and others who may want to create their design digitally or base it from a photo. Please make sure you
select the workshop that suits you.
To attend an INTERMEDIATE workshop (ie: multicolour printing) you must first attend a BEGINNERS workshop. You can book into both
workshops at the same time providing the beginner workshop runs prior to the intermediate.
A.A.A.S. only supplies test pieces of calico for fabric printing. If a participant wishes to make their edition on fabric (eg tshirts), the
participant will need to supply the medium at their own expense. A.A.A.S. has some limited stock of tees (average price $8 per item).
Participants signing up to the LPE (Learn + Print + Exhibit) Pack will have their work including in both Sydney & Wollongong exhibitions.
Students will also get 4hrs additional studio time to work on their edition. Available times for booking the studio will vary each week. Email
[email protected] to arrange a day/time or to ask questions. There is no refund if the studio time is not used. Studio time
must be used within 2 months of completion of workshop.
A.A.A.S. uses water-based screen printing inks for both fabric and paper printing.
The workshop fee includes screen hire only. If the participant would like to purchase their screen to keep they are $50 each for a
40x50cm economy screen with suitable mesh count for your project or professional 50x60cm screens are available for $80. All hired
frames must be reclaimed by the participant by the end of the workshop (chemicals, materials and demo supplied). Any screen damaged
by a student will incur a $50 fee to be paid within 1 week of incident.
Missed workshops will not be refunded, although if you have a good excuse and give reasonable notice we may credit you with a makeup
class or studio time. This is at the descreation of A.A.A.S. staff.
A.A.A.S. hopes to have between 10-20 artists involved in this exhibition event. A minimum of 5 artists are required for the Sydney
exhibition to run. If it is cancelled due to lack of bookings students who have paid will receive a $100 A.A.A.S. voucher.
ABOUT A.A.A.S.
Anchors Aweigh Art Studio (A.A.A.S.) facilitates alternative art workshops in graphic, urban and contemporary mediums. A.A.A.S.
provides a large, functional and safe warehouse space for participants to experiment and learn new techniques in a non-graded
environment. A.A.A.S. also provides HSC art mentorship programs and holds studio open days where artists can come and work on their
own artistic projects, great for artists without a studio.
A.A.A.S. is owned and operated by Trina Collins (Poncho Army). Trina is a working artist and was the 2012/2013 artist in residence
at Wollongong City Gallery. She has been a finalist in multiple art prizes, exhibited alongside many leading urban and contemporary
artists (Banksy, Lister, Vexta, ROA, Kid Zoom), has her work held in collections around the world and has mentored HSC students into
ArtExpress.
