CALL FOR ENTRIES:
We invite you to imitate the old masters and create something new for a brand new year. All
work must be original, must have been created in 2014-2015, and never have been shown before.
Qualifying works may include painting, ceramics, textile, photography, and mixed media as they
fit into the interpretation of the following eras:
Dutch Still Life (e.g., Jan Weenix, Pieter Claesz)
Romanticism (e.g., Eugene Delacroix, William Blake)
Impressionism (e.g., Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt)
Realism (e.g., Edward Hopper, William James Glackens)
Cubism (e.g., Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque)
Surrealism (e.g., Rene Magritte, Salvador Dali)
Abstract Expressionism (e.g., Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock)
Outsider Art or “Raw Art” (e.g., Howard Finster, Joseph Yoakum)
Pop Art (e.g., Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein)
Entry Fee & Application Process:
A non-refundable application fee of $25 includes up to three submissions, with no more than
one submission per era You may mail your application (pages 3-4) to The Artful Lawyer, A Fine
Gallery Inc, 318 N. Main Street, Blacksburg, VA 24060 or email it to
[email protected]. Please submit digital images (tiff or jpeg, maximum file size of
1.8MB – NO CD’s please) of each work with your application. Applications are due no later than
Tuesday, January 6, 2015.
Eligibility:
Open to all artists 18 years of age or older living within or off of the I-81 corridor between
Roanoke and Abingdon or within or off of the Route 460 corridor between Lynchburg and
Bluefield, West Virginia. An automatic qualification will be allowed for any and all artists and
artisans who have exhibited with the Gallery, who have sold work in the Gallery Store, or who
have rented space at The Artful Place.
Selection:
The Gallery reserves the right to limit the total number of works included in the Exhibit to 50 or
fewer depending on size, quality of submissions, and interpretation of theme. Notification of

accepted pieces will be sent out by Friday, January 13, 2015 by phone or email. Prizes will be awarded by the judges
during the night of our Whet Your Palette exhibit opening.
Media Size Requirements & Liability:
No work may have any perimeter edge/side exceeding 48 inches in length. All works must be
hand-delivered and retrieved in person following the Exhibit. Make sure that your artwork is
wired and ready to hang (no saw-tooth hangers). The Gallery will not display poorly framed, matted or
wired artwork. All framed work must be done with a focus on quality presentation. The Gallery reserves the right
to use photos or videos of the artworks for promotional use of the Gallery.
Delivery & Pickup:
All accepted work must be dropped off to The Artful Lawyer on Monday, January 19 or Tuesday,
January 20, 2015, from 8:30am-6:00pm and picked up on Thursday, April 9 or Friday, April 10, 2015, from
8:30am-6:00pm.
Sales:
The Artful Lawyer takes no commission on its sales of artwork exhibited in the Gallery.

The Artful Lawyer General Exhibit Policies:






Times for art dropoff and pickup are announced in the Call and Application. Other times must be prearranged with the Gallery.
Title cards must accompany each piece and include title, name, medium, and price. Any piece without a
price will be labeled Not for Sale. The Gallery will create uniform title cards for all final pieces in the
exhibit.
Each piece will be entered and initialed with the date received on an inventory form.
Artist statements and any social media links, website information, etc. may be submitted with the
application and prepared for the exhibit.
To aid in keeping the exhibit as intact as possible, any artwork that sells should remain for the duration of
the show.
Security is one of our highest priorities and we take great caution in locking our business during nonbusiness hours. However, The Artful Lawyer cannot be held liable for theft or damage to artwork accepted
for display and does not carry insurance on artwork. We encourage all of our artists to personally insure
their artwork.
