family members. The title “scarlet ibis” indicates that
the story has something to do with a tropical bird that is
stork-like in build and red in color. The pre-reading also
discussed how the title can relate to symbolism in the
story, so I’m inferring that the scarlet ibis will be a
symbol in a story about a family that confronts damaging
relationships.
