The Sacred Geometry of the Ancient Game of Mehen

* The Sacred Geometry of the Ancient Game of Mehen
To build a precise Mehen Board using Sacred Geometry, we first establish a Standard
Circle, the Fool, the Eye of the Serpent, the Uraeus or Mehen that floats above the
head of the Magician.
Then we repeat the circle to form the serpent's tail coiling
around its head. By the time we have exactly 22 circles we have established a coil
with an outermost diameter of 7 diameters of our standard circle. Multiplied by pi
this gives us 21.99, which we round off to 22. So magically our snake has
self-generated a vortex with a circumference of 22 from 22 iterations of itself. This
is another Journey of the Fool through the 22 Trumps. The snake MeHen is the rope
of the Hanged Man Trump. The segments on the snake are the 22 Trump cards. If
we draw that circle as the Big Empty Zero Fool and then use the centers of our
standard circle as a guide, we can describe a regular hexagon around the circle. This
hexagon consists of 12 right triangles with sides in the ratio of 1, 2, square root of 3.
This gives us a clock with the 12 months of the year and the 12 Houses of the Zodiac,
each with a Unit Measure. If we then describe another circle around the vertices of
the hexagon we have a circle of diameter 4 relative to our Unit Measure and 8.1
relative to our Standard Circle diameter. That gives us a circumference of 25.4.
This is the Zodiac Belt. The whole figure gives us the basic geometry of the Seed of
Life, Flower of Life, and Tree of Life that Drunvalo explores in great detail in his
books on The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life. Completing the fourth coil
gives a total of 38 Standard Circles. William Eisen numbers the circles 1-38 and reads
interesting messages using an English-language letter code. This is very odd
material. For example, he reads the following story in the English alphabet
sequence.

There is a imaginary (effigy) lower self that is beast-like and even descends to
behavior such as hijacking and killing of innocent people. There is also hope, for
you have a Christ-like double that is your Higher Self. It acts wisely. Whatever
you can make of that code, the sacred geometry is quite real and profound.

This is the famous zodiac chart from the ceiling of the Temple of Hathor at Dendera.
The twelve signs of the zodiac are labeled. Egyptologists consider these figures to
be Mesopotamian, and this is no doubt correct. However, the other constellations
and the planets are traditional Egyptian figures. Also, the 36 dekans are around the
outer rim. These are traditional Egyptian signs attested in much earlier sites such as
the tombs of Seti I and Senmut, although the names and drawings show some
variation. The Dendera dekans seem a bit garbled or degenerate. Also the zodiac
signs are squeezed into the chart and not placed very accurately. But there is a definite
correlation between the dekans and the zodiac. Generally each sign has three dekans
associated with it. Appended at the end of the book are more Egyptian star charts
and my reconstruction of the correlation of dekans and zodiac signs based on Budge’s
dekan list (Gods of the Egyptians, II, 304-308). A first draft survey indicates that
the Egyptians from ancient times had the same basic zodiac signs as the
Mesopotamians but related them to their own cultural myths. For example, we see
baby Horus in the Libra Harem. As Ophiuchus he plays with Serpens and Scorpio.

* The Weighing of the Heart
The centerpiece of the Judgment Scene is the Weighing of the Heart.
In Egyptian
culture the heart is one of the eight "souls" -- that is, major components -- of an
individual's being. For the Egyptians the heart is more than a muscle that pumps
blood. It is the physical representative of the seat of the sense of feeling. The
Judgment Scene is laid out not only as a story, but also as a map of the human body
according to the ancient chakra system. The Lovers form the two legs and feet.
(Baba)
The generation of life begins with the Root chakra, the issues of
coming into the world and surviving childbirth and infancy. The Scale is the Second
Chakra. This deals with our desires and fears. Sex is the main driving force. The Scale
mechanism is an elaborate symbol for the male phallus. The Fool-Monkey who sits on
the Tongue of the Scale is often drawn ithyphallic in Egyptian art. He represents the
natural sex drive. Right above him in the scroll we find Tefnut/Sekhmet, the wild
energy that drives the individual and forms the ego of the Belly Chakra.
Thoth as the High Priest represents the Sacrum. See the staff he holds on Waite’s card.
Ammit, the Devil's Advocate in the scene, represents the Belly Chakra. Examine the
monster carefully and you will find a whorl of hair that represents the navel.
The next step should be the Heart Chakra. But it is missing. The heart has been
removed and placed down in the Sex Chakra in the pan of Judgment. This is the
Test that forms the essence of the Judgment Scene. In order to open the higher
chakras, we must clear the lower ones first. The right hand side of the scroll shows
Horus, the Throat Chakra, guiding Ani and introducing him to Osiris. Osiris is the
Eye Chakra. Above Osiris we see the Crown Chakra.
All the characters that are active participants in the scene along the bottom row are
standing with the exceptions of Ani when he kneels before Osiris and Osiris himself.
Osiris sits on a throne. The Crown is above Osiris and forms the roof of the Temple.
There is a 90-degree shift from the axis of the Judgment Scene to the Axis of the
Transfiguration of Osiris into Amen-Ra, Heru Aakhuti. This tells us that the
enlightenment process is a dimensional shift, a radically different way of viewing
reality.
Many people want to live spiritual lives, but do not want to deal with their issues
around sex, their deepest desires and fears. The scroll warns that this is not a wise
Thoth and the Tarot

approach. The Heart and Sex Chakras are closely connected. You can not open the
Sex Chakra and have a fulfilling sex life unless and until your Heart Chakra is open
and clear. On the other hand, you can not open your Heart and live a loving life until
you honestly clear your deep fears and desires that clog the Sex Chakra.
Catch-22 situation.
It is a

lower chakras.
Its main job is to balance the upper and
In ordinary language this means that your heart balances the higher
cognitive functions of the intellect, vision, and higher spiritual values with the
practical worldly issues of food, sex, and survival. Without the lower chakras we
can not stay alive and grow in strength as physical beings. Without the higher
chakras we can not generate meaningful values in our lives. Life without the
unfolding of the higher chakras is a daily grind of working, consuming, grabbing
territory, and generally grubbing around in a meaningless cycle that has no idea why it
does this or where it is going. Anubis reminds us that it all leads to Death. And
you can not take the trappings of Life with you into the world of Death. All the nice
offerings Ani makes are memories of Life.
The Heart is in a jar on the phallic Scale, weighed against a feather that represents
Truth. The feather represents the world of the birds, a symbolic artistic way of
suggesting the world of Mind and Spirit. The feather is extremely light.
Consciousness is also an extremely light thing. All the dignity and seriousness of
the Judgment Scene ironically points out that we should live life with a light heart.
That is why Thoth as the Monkey-Fool sits on top of the Scale and fiddles with the
Tongue. He does not care about Fate, Destiny, or any of the trappings of Success or
the Dangers of Failure. The whole thing is a joke to him. That is why his True
Mistress is Ma’at, the Goddess of Truth. She is as light as a feather. Thoth is not a
male chauvinist with his wife walking demurely behind him. He stands behind her
with dignity and respect and records her Judgments dutifully as the High Priest. But
as a Foolish monkey he plays with her putting his tail on her tongue in a light-hearted
way. In both cases his full attention is on her Truth and her Judgment of the Heart.
The Higher Gods sit above as Witnesses and watch the scene unfolding below. They
are transcendental witnesses. They are immortals. When Osiris opens his Cosmic
Cobra Crown, he rises to the level of the Silent Witness gods in the Halls of Amenti.
He joins the Sahus who live forever in the Glorious Light of the Aakhu. These

independent of the biological life cycle. However, H*u and Saa, the two Ministrants
on the left side of the middle row, guarding Horus in the Womb are two subtle spirits
of feeling. They are also transformations of Thoth and Ma’at.
They remind us that
the key to Love and Life in the world of Light is to Taste Life and to Feel it, to
experience it directly in a balanced way. The tool that can most easily bring us into
direct experience in the moment is the Breath. The Breath flows in and out of the
Lungs, surrounding and filling the Heart's Blood with Life Energy. It keeps us alive
in the moment.
The science of Conscious Breathing is a vast technology for
exploring Life in many dimensions. The starting point is just Hu-Saa.
Sit quietly,
close your eyes if you like, and become aware of the sound of your breathing.
Breathe in (Hu), and then breathe out (Saa). There you are -- restfully alert, alive in
the moment, deliberately doing what keeps you alive and vibrant with energy.
Osiris is the embodiment of the Great Generative Deity, Men. The entire Judgment
Scene becomes the embodiment of Men as the Game Board of Life. The iconic pose
of Men reminds us of the Great Sacred Technology of the Cosmic Cobra Breath.
This is the advanced technique that takes us from simply breathing and alive in the
moment to the Glory of the Eternal Cosmic Light of the Immortals. For the
Egyptians this was no ordinary Game. This was the Game of Immortality and Bliss.
The amazing Monuments they left for the world to marvel at remind us that these
ancient people were on to something that they considered so important that they
wanted to leave some clues for the future generations to uncover. Every pyramid,
obelisk, temple, or giant stone statue in Egypt is a silent Monument to Menu. The
massive heavy stones are a light-hearted joke to let us all in on a Great Cosmic Secret.
The esoteric belief that the huge stones were put into place by levitation is not so far
from the Truth after all.

* Flat Square World Versus Round Spherical World
The Egyptian Trumps do not show evidence of the notion that the Earth is round.
We see the Solar Disc prominently displayed and associated with Ra, Tefnut, and even
Hathor. But Seb lies flat under the arched body of Nut. Shai, the God of Destiny
who reckons the days of men, also does not have a wheel. He has a Sphinx that
looks to me like a Senet Box with a head on it. The head is a glyph meaning first,
foremost, or top. It is pronounced tep (our English word, top.) The Tepi-a were the
ancestors, the ancient ones from of old, the First Ones. A tep could also be a box,
and a tep ra was a divine oracle. Tep-ta meant "on Earth". A Senet Board was
often built on top of a long rectangular box that had a drawer to hold the pawns and
the throwing sticks. With the evolution of the game into a form of divination this
box would become a fitting symbol to represent Destiny. Sometimes the box was
white or a light color, and sometimes it was a dark color or black. Budge's
dictionary 724a shows a white version, and the scroll shows a black example.
Putting the head on top of the box made it look like a sphinx. This accounts for the
black and white sphinxes that we see pulling the Chariot of the Warrior Horus. The
Great Sphinx at Giza was called H*u, the same name as the God of Taste who stands
in the middle left corner of our Judgment Hall Senet Board.
H*u is a secret name
of Thoth. This connects him with Shai. One tradition says that H*u sprang from
the blood of the phallus of Ra. Blood makes the phallus stand up erect. In the
Judgment Hall Shai stands erect right next to the phallic pole of the Scale.
The glyph for Shai is a pictograph of an orderly garden with stalks of plants growing
upright from the horizontal ground. This connects Shai to Min, the god of the erect
phallus, the generative god who made the ground fertile so the plants could grow up
strong and erect. Egypt is a desert land. The only reason civilization arose there
was because the Nile brought fresh water. Furthermore it periodically inundated the
surrounding land. This automatically gave the land a good watering and put down a
layer of fresh dark TOPsoil that was good for growing things. Does Shai start to
make more sense now? Let's dig a little deeper into the mysterious origins of Egypt
and its Destiny.
According to very ancient traditions the Nile was fashioned by Khnemu, the fashioner.
Khnem means to sniff, or smell. It somehow connects back to the breath. I suspect
that this derives from the smell that the Nile brought when it flooded the land.
Khnemu created the Nile. He also fashioned out of clay the egg from which the sun
was born. His glyph is a pot. He is the Potter God. The potter mixes clay (T*iT*)

and water until it forms a soft substance and then throws pots with it on his spinning
wheel. This is a wonderful irony. Our physicists theorize that the earth was a
particle thrown off from the sun.
But according to this idea the sun came from an
earthen pot thrown by Khnemu on his potter's wheel. The Wheel of Khnemu is the
Wheel of Fortune that underlies Shai. It is not shown when they draw Shai in the
Judgment Hall, but we must understand it to be in the background.
Khnemu's totem is a strange sheep-like creature with wavy horns that radiate in
opposite directions horizontally from its head.
Khnemu (his totem)
,
(his glyph)
We do not find such an animal. This suggests that the Egyptians made up the animal
to represent an abstract idea. Many African animals have twisted or wavy horns, but
none like this. The horns of the bull were used to represent the rays of light from the
sun. It looks to me like these horns of Khnemu represent waves radiating from a
source. They are horizontal because they run on the surface of the water. The
horns are just the glyph for water used to represent radiating wave forms.
Perhaps Khnemu originally arose as a local Nile god. But he became the God of
Sacred Geometry. He fashioned the universe from Sacred Geometry. He had two
main creations that came from one source. The Egyptians represented this by the
wavy horns radiating out in opposite directions from the head of Khnemu. The two
creations both come from the same thing -- wavy oscillating radiation. His two
inventions were the circle and the line. The two both come from oscillation. When
the oscillation stays in one place and just moves in time, then we get the Potter's
Wheel. When the oscillation opens up and moves through space we get a wavy ray.
The vibrations of the wave get lost when the spatial translation dominates and we get
what looks like a line. On the Potter's Wheel Khnemu created the circular forms of
the Egg, and Sun, and the Pot. Then on the flat open earth he used water to create
the long line of the Nile on the sun-baked clay of Egypt. Min added the 90-degree
dimensional shift, and then the Nile flooded and then the plants grew upward from the
mud. The organizing and domesticating of this fertile creation into farms and
gardens is the realm of Shai. This new science of agriculture brought the Egyptians
Good Fortune. They could live comfortably and prosper in peace along the banks of
the Nile supporting a reasonably large population without too much trouble.

Take another close look at Shai on the scroll. In front of him is the erect phallic
Scale with its 90-degree dimensional shift. Behind him is a clay pot that holds the
Heart. Above him is Seb, the Earth, and right next to Seb is Nut, the Starry Sky.
She is right over the pot with the Heart, and on her head is a pot, the glyph for her
name. Above Shai we see lots of clay and behind him are two clay pots. The two
arms of the Scales are like the horns of Khnemu. So you can be sure that Khnemu is
right there in the center of the whole scene carrying on his work of fashioning. Shai
is his representative.
(Is it possible that Khnemu is a bit shy and prefers to stay in
the background?)
Khnemu was the original Mason with his compass and straightedge. The compass or
Potter's Wheel creates feminine forms, the cosmic Egg from which the Sun comes.
In the row of Witness gods we find the Egg-pot of Nunut on one side of Seb and the
Solar disc of Tefnut on the other side. The straightedge of the Scale creates the
male's Nilotic phallus. The phallus fertilizes the clay on the Potter's Wheel and
mankind arises. We see the same deity in ancient China as the dual form of Fu-xi
and Nu-wa. Fu-xi holds the phallic straightedge. His tool even has the 90-degree
erection bestowed on it by Min and thus recapitulates our letter L. Nu-wa holds the
compasses. They look, not like a circle, but like a V. We have to imagine the circle
that we can inscribe with them just as we have to imagine the Khnemic Potter's Wheel
of Fortune underlying Shai. This same symbolism carries on even today with the
Freemasons. Fu-xi and Nu-wa have human upper bodies, but below the waist they
turn into two wavy intertwining serpents -- the Nagas. This represents the Kundalini
energy, the horns of Khnemu, the Ancient Nagas of Babaji, and of course, Set, the
digestive system. Look at the sign of Capricorn. . The sign starts out as a sheep
or goat with V-shaped horns and then turns into a serpent. This is Fu-xi (and/or
Nu-wa). These ancient deities or cultural totems are all variations on the same idea.
We should also mention Khepera, the beetle god. He was another very ancient
creator god in Egypt. The fascination with the scarab beetle arises from the
observation that in Egypt this dung beetle has a habit of making a ball out of smelly
bull shit. She inserts her eggs inside her ball of dung. The babies hatch and eat the
dung. Then they emerge as adults and fly around for a while up in the sky and then
come down to earth and repeat the process. For the ancient Egyptians the scarab was
a miniature version of Khnemu. He fashioned a smelly ball of Set-shit. This
functioned as an egg. Out of it came a beetle that flew up toward the Sun. This
story nicely combined the cult of the Bull of creative energy (Ka) with the cult of
Khnemu the Potter and cult of Ra the Sun. Set is the Pole Star, the center point of
Thoth and the Tarot

the Potter's Wheel around which it turns. The Earth is a giant pot being turned on
the Potter's Wheel in the Sky. So when we look deeper we find that the Egyptians
after all did have the idea that the Earth could be a ball or a disc.
Another source of the image of discs associated with Destiny, Earth, and material
things seems to come from the development by Chinese and others of round coins to
use as money in exchange for goods. Originally the Chinese used cowries, then
metal shaped as bells or knives.
square was a symbol of Earth.
The disc for them was a symbol of Heaven.
The
Eventually the discoid coins that they developed had
the round shape of Heaven with a square hole in the center for Earth. The cash coins
could then be strung together into strings of cash. Other countries also adopted
discoid coins to use as cash. Over time the discoid shape turned out to be the
simplest, most convenient shape for metal coins.
The World Trump shows the integration of the roundness of Heaven and the
Squareness of Earth, but cleverly reversed. Earth is round and Heaven is Square. The
development of the Disc as the symbol for the element of Earth probably came from
Mesopotamia or Eastern Asia or even from China, not from Egypt. The Suit of Coins
probably evolved in China as the cash coins on the Mahjong tiles. From there it was
adopted as the Suit for earthly material things because, at least from Roman times we
find widespread introduction of discoid coins in the Near East and the Mediterranean.
The stars on the pentacle coins that appear for the Disc Suit in many Tarot decks may
be a reminder of the Great Potter's Wheel in the Sky with which Khnemu shapes our
earth like a pot. Venus (The Empress of Love, Het-Hor) traces a 5-pointed star as
she moves through her orbit. The star also is the Pole Star of Set. That is why the
pentacle has a traditional association with Satan (and the interchangeability of the
Empress and the Devil (
. The goat's horns on the Devil card actually should be
the wavy horns of Khnemu. The star Waite put on the Devil's forehead is the Pole
Star. The ancient Egyptian totem for Set is another invented animal. He vaguely
resembles a dog. But the most remarkable features of Set's totem are the V-shaped
ears and the erect tail. The tail also often has a fork and resembles the Hebrew letter
Vau
the shepherd's crook of the High Priest. Set was known to be very sexually
fixated. His erect tail suggests that. These attributes look to me like again we have
symbols of the tools of Sacred Geometry. As the Pole Star, Set used the compasses
and straightedge to describe the Cosmic Clock. Set is a foundation god.
Thoth and the Tarot
252
Set ruled the Desert land and the Northern Sky. Osiris ruled the Nile and the
Southern Sky. Myths about Set trying to kill Osiris may have to do with periods
when the Nile did not function properly. There may have been droughts that greatly
reduced the Nile flow. The stories say that when Osiris, the Nile, was brought back
to life his penis was missing. The erect penis is Min's way of representing the
fertility that stimulates plants to grow up strong and tall. If the Nile floods were
absent or greatly reduced, the crop yields would be much less. Instead of standing
up firm and tall, the plants would droop and wither.
While on the subject of phalluses and gods of generation, we should also mention
Babaji. In ancient Egypt he appears as Baba, or Baba-i, or Beb, or Babu. He is the
firstborn son of Osiris and is a god of generation. He represents the effects of the
Cobra Breath of Min upon Osiris. If Osiris is civilized Egypt, the Nile is his
Kundalini. NebtHet is the goddess of the abundance that the Nile brings. Isis is the
bed of fertile land (especially the delta) on which and through which the Nile flows,
the Holy Temple of Egypt. Set is the wild uncivilized Desert that surrounds this
living jewel. So on earth Set is the outer rim and in the sky he is the center (vice
versa for Osiris). Egyptian civilization consists of these four siblings: Osiris, Isis,
Set, and NebtHet. Khnemu fashioned the whole scene. Min showed Osiris, the
civilized Egyptians how to raise the Kundalini energy and live a life of health, wealth,
and abundance. This brought the Good Fortune (Shai) of Agriculture. Set is the
foundation for the whole thing. Without him it would not work. All are necessary.
Min showed them how to bring spiritual abundance out of the bare rocks.
So now we have a question. Who is the firstborn of Osiris? Horus or Baba-i?
The word Beb or Baba is a cave, lair, hole in the ground, or eye socket. Ba is a
panther skin garment. Ba or baba is also to use a hand plow or adze. It seems that
Horus was born after the death of Osiris. But he was not the firstborn. Baba was the
firstborn. He was a man of the ba spirit who wore a leopard skin and lived in a cave.

especially Ra, Shu, and Tefnut. Baba-i is one with them.

ba-iu
B - ab
This tells us more about the Hermit. The Heart (ab) is the Hermit. "B" by itself in
Egyptian is a place or abode. So b-ab is the place of the heart, the abode of the heart.
Ab also means gladness, pleasure. So B-ab is the place of pleasure and gladness.
This is what the Hermit seeks.
This is something that we all search for.
According
to the ancient traditions, Baba-i became associated with the phallus. His father, in
the process of becoming civilized, died and became dismembered into pieces. When
reassembled, the phallus was missing. Perhaps civilization killed the true meaning
of the phallus. Baba-i dedicated himself to the restoration of that tool to its primal
function. -- a joystick for creating material abundance and the highest state of spiritual
bliss. The Dead are people who do not understand Will and Love -- Heru and
Het-heru. It seems possible that the Babaji we know from Indian tradition not only
has been around since the early third century in India, he may have been around for
thousands of years, showing up here and there to inspire civilizations to remember
their roots in bliss. His recorded birth and life in India may just be a local
appearance for the benefit of the natives there. Babaji has several titles in India.
He is known as the Maha-Avatar, the Great Embodiment [of Bliss.] This connects him
to his father, Osiris, the resurrected one (Magician). Babaji goes beyond resurrection
and can come and go in space-time at will. His given name is Nagaraj, King of the
Nagas, or Serpent-King. This connects him to Isis-NebtHet, the Kundalini Dakinis
(High Priestess and Temperance). He is also known as the Mula-Guru, The Master of
the Root Chakra. This connects him to Set, the Devil. He is also called Maha-Muni,
the Great Silent Sage. This connects him to the Hermit-Heart and Amen-Ra. Like
Shiva he loves to dwell in mountain caves. Like the Fool he pays no attention to the
showy trappings of civilization. Unlike his brother Horus he is not a warrior
struggling against evil. He has no quarrel with uncle Set. There is an ancient tradition
that Baba in his relation to Set became Typhonic and took to devouring the phalluses
of the dead. This is a correct, but esoteric teaching. In the Judgment Hall Set's minion
Ammit eats the hearts of the unjust and dishonest. Baba-i eats the Phallus (and Liver)
of the "unloving dead" and transforms them into a new Heart, thus resurrecting the
dead into loving living beings. Horus is the hero of the indomitable Will. Baba-i is
Min's minion, the hero of the resurrection of the Heart from the dead. Baba-i is also
Thoth's minion: he will stay down here until the job's done.

In ancient Egypt funeral ceremonies were very elaborate with several priests involved.
The climax of the ceremony was a ritual intended to bless the deceased onto the path
of enlightenment so that in the next life he would gain the immortality of Osiris and
live forever with the gods. The Sem priest dressed in a panther or leopard's skin
after the manner of Osiris' firstborn son, Babai, and performed the key action. This
priest used a special wand called the Ur Hekau (Great Power Word) to "Open the
Mouth and Eye" of the deceased. The wand was a sinuous rod topped by a sheep's
head (ba) from the top of which a uraeus cobra stood erect. The Sem touched the
mouth and eyes of the mummy with this wand to reawaken the ancient path of Babai.

According to the ancient Egyptians Khnemu the fashioner fashioned out of clay on a
potter's wheel the cosmic egg from which the Sun-Source Father of Life was born.
The idea that Fortune was a wheel that you went up and down and around on as your
Destiny unfolded came from imagining that you were the clay fashioned on a potter's
wheel by some Great Potter in the Sky. This is misunderstanding. The original
idea in ancient times was that YOU were the potter who shaped the clay of your world
on YOUR potter's wheel, the rotation of the clay earth on its axis. Your Destiny was
something that you fashioned as its creator and therefore took full responsibility for.
The idea that you are something somebody else created has totally dis-empowered
countless generations of people from their birthrights as the fashioners of their own
Destinies. That idea probably came from some individuals who decided to play a
game of dominating and manipulating other people's pots instead of minding their
own pots. Let every pot sit on its own bottom and shit from its own bottom.
