CONCEPT FOR AN AUSTRIAN-TURKISH DANUBE
TRANSPORT SEMINAR IN VIENNA & KREMS
Motivation
Last November via donau seized new opportunities to promote the Danube waterway and the Austrian
inland navigation sector beyond the Austrian borders. Both at the international logistics fair “Logitrans”
and during the “Danube Transport Seminar”, an experts exchange took place initiated by the Turkish
Ministry of Economy and the Turkish Ministry of Transport. via donau’s expertise regarding Danube
logistics was in demand and allowed the Austrian Waterway Management Company to open new
perspectives for its Danube partners.
High-level expert presentations and discussions on international level were at the core of the experts
exchange seminar on transport solutions on the Danube, the "Danube Transport Seminar" which took
place on 16 November 2012 in the Exhibition Center of Istanbul. Answering the invitation of the
Turkish Ministry of Economy, Reinhard Vorderwinkler (Austrian Supreme Shipping Authority), HansPeter Hasenbichler (CEO via donau) and Simon Hartl (Head of Transport Development via donau)
shared their experience, expectations and perspectives for Danube navigation with representatives of
the Turkish government.
Based on the positive feedback and experience from the event in Istanbul the cooperation should be
intensified during a seminar in Austria. The event in Istanbul was focused on a first overview of
technical and market aspects of Danube logistics. The Danube Transport Seminar in Austria will go
one step further and focus on the collaboration between ministries and administrative bodies as well
as the involved Economic Chambers with the target of evaluating the establishment of regular forums
for cooperation in dedicated workshops (e.g. joint projects, workshops, etc).
In parallel to this knowledge exchange, the Seminar should offer the interested business sectors a
Business-2-Business platform for the fruitful development of the Danube axis as link between the
Danube Region and Turkey.
