YCBDSN Informer Year End Round-Up Mary Poole The agency finished the year on target with our budget projections. There are a few projects still being completed. List toppers include roofs, floors, appliances, porch and bathroom renovations, indoor and outdoor furniture and interior painting. We are getting close to having all of the major renovations completed as part of a five-year effort to do so. It appears that interior painting will be a constant effort. We did bring in a nationally recognized employee trainer to provide training to the direct care staff. This was a fairly large undertaking which resulted in over 180 staff having the opportunity to listen to Jim Rice. Jim was also able to visit SLP-II, Bird Street and both day programs to provide “hands-on” training. Jim left with nothing but praise for all of the programs he visited. In addition to those mentioned above, Jim went to Poplar Acres, Roberts Ave, Hall Street and Hidden Lakes. As we start the new fiscal year, there is a planned 3% pay increase that is awaiting the Governor’s signature as well as an increase in the employer and employee contributions to retirement. As more details become available, the information will be sent out. Denise Swafford in the loss of her mother. P AG E 3 INTERESTING !!!???!!!! An interesting tidbit about a summer time treat….. Did you know that there are square watermelons. Farmers have grown watermelons in square-sided containers that force the fruit to grow into a cubical shape. This is being tried for ease of transportation and storage but growing them this way could be more costly….thus the reason you don’t see them in stores. You can search cubicle watermelon on line and see more pictures. PAYROLL CORNER Half of 2011 is gone!!!! Can you believe it????? Please look at your withholdings on your check stubs for your federal and state taxes and see if you are getting enough withheld. Payroll gets a lot of phone calls in December from upset employees about there being too small amount or no taxes withheld and then it is too late to adjust. Staff can complete another W-4 form at any time to adjust or correct. A form can be sent or staff can stop by Beverly Painter’s office at Admin to make changes. Show your dentist office staff your Dental Plus identification card before receiving services. This ensures the office knows the coverage you have and helps them manage your account. You only need to file one claim to receive benefits under the State Dental and Dental Plus Plans. You will receive two Explanations of Benefits (EOB) for each claim filed. One reflects the benefits under the State Dental Plan (claim number begins with a "T") and one reflects the benefits under Dental Plus (claim number begins with a "V"). The amount in the “What You Owe Provider” block on the State Dental Plan EOB will decrease based on the Dental Plus payment. So, wait until you receive your Dental Plus EOB before determining your financial responsibility to your dentist. Visit the BlueCross Blue Shield of South Carolina website, www.southcarolinablues.com, to find a dentist who accepts the Dental Plus allowances and decreases your out-of-pocket expenses.
