Latin Name: Chlamydoselachus anguineus
Appearance:
Dark brown/grey. Eel-like in appearance & has 6 gills (most sharks have 5). Max length 197cm.
Diet: Deepwater squid, fish & other sharks.
Habitat: Near the sea bed in deepwater. Found from 100-1,500m deep.
Distribution: Reproduction: Sporadically worldwide but records incomplete.
Estimated pregnancy of 1-2 years. Litters of 6-12 pups.
IUCN Redlist Status: Near Threatened (likely to become Threatened).
Fun Facts:
One of the oldest species of sharks, the Frilled Shark has existed for at least
450 million years!
Frilled Sharks are also called Frill-Gilled Sharks, Lizard Sharks, Scaffold
Sharks & Silk Sharks.
