English A: Language and Literature
English A: Language and Literature is offered at both Higher and Standard Levels. In this course, the
study of texts forms a focus for developing a clear understanding of the constructive nature of
language. Texts will be understood on the basis of form, content, purpose, and audience.
Aim: To develop in students skills of textual analysis and the understanding that texts, both literary and
non-literary, can be seen as autonomous yet simultaneously related to culturally determined reading
practices.
