DESCRIPTION OF FINDINGS & CONCLUSIONS
A. Description of Facility
The facility is located in Briarwood Elementary School in Warren, Michigan. The
program is operated by the Warren Woods Public School District. On April 23, 2009
and September 8, 2009, on site inspections were conducted and the following rooms
were approved for use:
Gymnasium
Cafeteria
3332 Square feet of usable space
2380 Square feet of usable space
Capacity
Capacity
95
68
The licensee has requested a capacity of 75 at any one time. There is more than
sufficient space to accommodate the requested capacity. The licensee is aware that
when the children in attendance exceed 68, the gymnasium must be used in addition to
the cafeteria.
There are a total of 8 sinks and 8 toilets available for children’s use. There are
additional restrooms available throughout the school.
2
There is an adequate amount of age appropriate play equipment for children’s use.
Parents will be asked to sign a playground consent form allowing their school age child
to use the school’s playground equipment while in care.
On January 30, 2009, an environmental health inspection was conducted at the facility.
The facility was granted an “A” rating by the Macomb County Health Department
sanitarian.
On July 22, 2009, the licensee requested a variance to rule requiring a lead risk
assessment. On August 14, 2009, the Department granted the request with the
condition that if the center implements a preschool program; a lead risk assessment
shall be obtained.
On April 24, 2009, the Warren Woods superintendent signed the certification of school
building’s compliance with fire safety provisions statement. Since the program is
located within a public school building, the facility is not required to have a fire safety
inspection.
B. Program Description
The program will provide before and after school care for children enrolled in
kindergarten through 12 years of age. The program will operate Monday through Friday
from 6:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The program will remain in operation half days, full days off
of school and vacation weeks. The program will be open during holidays and the
summer contingent upon enrollment. Transportation services will not be provided.
Parents are encouraged to provide a snack for their child. Parents must provide a lunch
on half days and vacation weeks unless otherwise noted.
Christy Wilkins is approved as the multi-site program director. Ms. Wilkins’ credentials
were reviewed and are on file with the department. Ms. Wilkins has the required CPR
and First Aid training. Ms. Wilkins is aware she is limited to three sites as the multi-site
program director.
C. Rule/Statutory Violations
The center is in full compliance with applicable rules and statutes.
