Monday, June 12, 2017 | 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm College of Nursing (CON) 2018 Design and Critique of Grants for Implementation Research PRESENTED BY THE GREAT PLAINS IDeA-CTR NETWORK Ed Ellerbeck, MD, MPH Chair, Preventive Medicine & Public Health Professor Director, Cancer Control & Population Health, KU Cancer Center Director, Clinical and Translational Research Education Center, Frontiers CTSA This presentation will focus on the design and critique of grants for implementation research. Dr. Ellerbeck is a practicing general internist working with patients, students, and residents and the KU Medical Center. He has over 25 years of experience in measuring and improving the quality of medical care, particularly in underserved rural and minority communities. His particular area of interest is in the development of system changes to enhance prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. He directs or collaborates on a wide variety of research designed to promote smoking cessation, cancer screening, dietary changes, and diabetes control. His interdisciplinary research teams have included physicians, nurses, psychologists, anthropologists, nutritionists, sociologists, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, economists, and health services researchers. In total, he has mentored ten faculty on career development grants that subsequently led to independent NIH funding. He led the KUMC K30 Clinical Research Curriculum Program from 2005-2010 and then assumed the role of directing the research training core for our CTSA. In 2012, he received the KUMC Excellence in Mentoring Junior Faculty Award and in 2013 the Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award. He is a member of the NIH scientific review committee on Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health.
