Daily 5—Biographies
During guided reading, we will read biographies of
important leaders during colonial times, beginning with Ben Franklin.
Students will learn the meaning of some of the sayings and words of wisdom
that Ben Franklin shared in
Poor Richard’s Almanac.
For example, he wrote “a penny saved is a penny earned.”
Students will write an opinion piece about why they agree or disagree with the
saying.
Students will also figure out Magic Squares, like the ones that Benjamin Franklin
created. A magic square is an arrangement of numbers in a square grid, where
the numbers in each row, and in each column, and the numbers in the forward
and backward main diagonals, all add up to the same number.
