In The Loop with SCARF Sunlight Children’s Advocacy and Rights Foundation June 2014 Issue 6/Volume 8 Suzi Thien, Executive Director Thank you to all who attended our first annual Sporting Clay Shoot on May 22nd at the Murphy and Sons course in Augusta! It was a great success. We were honored to have Teresa Vail, Miss Kansas 2013, help us kick off the event (picture, left: Cale Stephens, Joe Vittitow, Miss Kansas Theresa Vail, Kelly Herzet, & Rex Stephens.) Thanks to the following companies who sponsored teams: GT MidWest, Kice Industries, AJ Well Services, Sundgren Real Estate, Andover CPA, Stephens Farms, Vantage Properties, and Holly Frontier. Thank you to our event sponsors: Cabelas, Meritrust, American Ag Credit, Ace Augusta, Ace Andover, Darin LaCrone, Jet BBQ, and Mark Murphy. We are looking forward to next year’s event! Thank you to all of our generous donors! We are proud to announce that we have exceeded our $2.5 million Capital Campaign goal! Because of compassionate donors like you, construction has begun on Sunshine Children’s Home. The funds exceeding our goal will go towards operating expenses as we build policies and staff to respond to the child clients who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. We expect to finish construction by the fall. “In the Loop with SCARF” is a memo to friends and supporters of Sunlight Children’s Advocacy and Rights Foundation. It is mailed on the first Monday of each month. Thank you to Circle High School’s Senior Class for hand-making 38 blankets for Sunshine Children’s Home! Shelly Nibarger led the seniors in the service learning project. Children from your community who have been removed from their own homes will feel welcomed and cared for because of your hard work. People like you are making a difference. We had record attendance at the 8th Annual Buckaroo Ball. We are so grateful to the more than 430 attendees at Murfin Stables in April. You helped us raise over $140,000 and we had a great time doing it! With Kyle Bauer from KFRM 550 acting as Master of Ceremonies, we enjoyed live and silent auctions, dancing with the Bucky Fowler Band, and a steak dinner catered by Mike McCoy/Real Deal Catering. Thank you to all who responded to your invitation to enjoy a western-themed event to benefit abused and neglected children in your community. Because of you, these children are finding safety at SCARF. SCARF Serves Children in YOUR Community Kimmy’s parents told her not to let her uncle do that to her again, and she should get over it and not tell anyone. She saw her uncle every week and was afraid. Kimmy was glad to tell the truth to someone who cared at SCARF.
