2016 Rottingdean Arts
2015 was a very busy and successful year with 30 events presented in the Village
since February 2015. We ended the year with a most enjoyable and well-attended
concert on Sunday, November 29 in the Village Hall, performed by the superb
4 GIRLS 4 HARPS.
We had some wonderful musicians, actors and ensembles perform for us in various
village venues and the two Festivals we presented, the Spring Music Festival (in
March) and the Jazz Festival (in August) were very well supported and were full of
variety as well as top professionalism.
The programme for 2016 involves fifteen different events.
The year will commence with a Rottingdean Arts Launch/Reception/G & S Recital for Sponsors, Patrons and
Friends (numbers permitting) in the wonderfully restored Barn at Hillside, The Green on Sunday, Feb 21 at 12.30.
The SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL will run from Saturday, March 12-Sunday, March 20. There will be a daytime
'Messiah' Choral Workshop and an evening Opera and Musicals Gala Dinner on Saturday, March 12. On Sunday,
March 13 at 4.00pm the English Concert Orchestra and Singers with members of the Rottingdean Festival Chorus
will present Haydn's great oratorio, 'The Creation' in St. Margaret's Church. Monday 14 will see a Jazz Dinner at the
Bistro Gourmand with brilliant Jazz Pianist/Vocalist Mike Hatchard with a three-course dinner cooked by Franck
Thomeret.
Weds. March 16 will feature PAPRIKA, an outstanding international folk ensemble, in the Village Hall at 7.30pm
presenting traditional and Gypsy East European Music. On Friday, March 18 there will be a lunchtime PIANO
RECITAL by the superb young Turkish pianist Salih Gevrek. On Saturday, March 19 the evening concert in the Village
Hall will feature THE MAGIC OF ABBA and the Festival will conclude on Sunday evening, March 20 with a Gilbert &
Sullivan Gala Concert with 4 ex-D'Oyly Carte soloists.
Other events in the year will include a production of Shakespeare's 'MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING' in the Kipling
Gardens on Sunday, June 12 at 7.00pm; three Summer Concerts on the Rottingdean Terraces Stage, a major Jazz
concert in the Village Hall on Saturday August 27 and a return visit of 4 GIRLS 4 HARPS + Soprano Soloist in a preChristmas Concert on Sunday, December 4 at 3.00pm.
So there it is! Hopefully something for everyone.
