In rough, write down answers to the following and join in class discussion on the topics. Why
was it:
a. important to sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk?
b. wrong to sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk?
Next, working in a small group, research the Communists to find answers to the following:
• What did the Communists do to try to make Russia a more equal society?
• What did Lenin rename Russia in 1922 and what did this stand for?
• What happened to wealthy people?
• Do you think that the Communists were helping Russia to become a fairer society?
Make notes together on these points and, after 20 minutes, you will be asked to discuss your groups’
findings with the rest of the class.
