Message from the Head
Key Stage One and EYFS children had a fantastic day in Rendlesham Forest on
Thursday. They went on a ‘Bear Hunt’ in true Michael Rosen style, looked for the
Gruffalo and hunted to find number 9 on the sculpture trail (a feat that the
children achieved when Mrs Fewkes, Mrs Palmer and Miss Porter could not when
they visited to do the risk assessment before the visit!) The children’s behaviour
was very good and they came home, muddy, tired and full of information about
their day. We hope you enjoyed hearing about it as much as we did.
We also had a fantastic RE day where children talked about the faith of Muslim people. They considered
how people are all similar but have different faiths and religious or non-religious beliefs and found out
about the Muslim faith. They went on to find out more about movement of people and the current refugee
crisis and to consider how this might impact on them if they were in that situation. The children were very
sensible and a whole range of discussions were evident in classrooms around the school. Children are
developing the British Value of Tolerance and Respect for those of different or no faith.
Key Stage Two were out at Saxmundham Free School on Wednesday morning where they took part
enthusiastically in a wet and muddy cross country race. All of the children were good sports, cheering each
other on and celebrating both winners and those who did not come first. Well done everyone.
After a period of illness Mrs Elias has decided not to return to work after Easter. I am sure you will want
to join the staff and Governors in thanking Mrs Elias for all her hard work over the many years she has
been at the school. She will be missed.
We have had a number of near misses this week, children on scooters darting out into the road in front of
cars, drivers on mobile phones not watching what they are doing when they are driving. Please speak to
your children about safety awareness if you are allowing them to travel to and from school on their own.
The penalty for use of a mobile phone was doubled this week to 6 penalty points and a £200 fine – even
more importantly however; it puts all of our children and those using the pavements in the way of avoidable
risk. We really don’t want any accidents.
Stars of the Week
This week our value has been CARING FOR OTHERS. Our pupils of the week for caring for others are Lily
in Oaks class, Elsie in Hawthorn class, Samuel in Rowan class, Amy in Chestnut class and Alex in Silver
Birch class. We have been thinking about events in the news this week and considered the British Value of
‘Individual Liberty’ and talking about the importance of using our heads and our senses to decide if the
food we eat is safe. We have been considering how much of our food goes to waste and have decided to try
our hardest not to waste food.
Next week the value we will be considering in our assemblies and in lessons will be APPRECIATION.
In the Community
We are still collecting postage stamps and used ink cartridges from computer printers and a box is now in
Reception for Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers. Comic Relief Red Noses have now sold out. Sorry for any
disappointment. Thank you everyone who has supported this. We will be sporting our
comedy socks on Red Nose Day on Friday 24th March.
Benhall Badger Cubs Football Club are recruiting!! The Under 8’s (Current School Year 3) are looking
to recruit players for next season. The Under 8’s currently have 2 very successful sides and are looking to bring in new
players for next season.
We will be holding an open training session during May for anyone interested. If you would like further details for your
child to attend this please send an email declaring your interest to [email protected]
Attendance
“Ten ticks for a ticket”
Our whole school attendance figure for the year so far is 95.57% and for the week is 92.34%. The class
with the best attendance this week was Oaks with 99%.
Good Behaviour Awards.
Lots of children have been practising very hard and getting ten out of ten week after week in their
spellings. These correct spellings are also beginning to appear in their daily written work. This is very
pleasing to see and the following children have gone on to gold for this reason: Jemma, Corey, Shanjay,
Katie, Noah, May, Summer, Chelsy, Mollie, Bethany, Isla, Albert, Ollie , Amelie, Ruby, Daisy, Emily, Maddie,
Toby, Hollie, Sam, Jack, Taylor, Alex, Rory, Shantos, Lily, Sam, Ruby, Pearl, Nicole and Rosie. It is lovely to
know that so many people are working so hard. Thank you everybody for all your hard work supporting the
children at home.

Random Acts of Kindness
Our new award recognises the kind and caring ways in which children treat each other at the school,
expecting nothing in return. I have been so impressed on many occasions by the small things children do to
support and care for each other. Small acts of kindness can really make a difference to our relationships
with each other and they are often the basis of making new friendships. This week’s ‘Random Acts of
Kindness Awards’ go to Hannah and Lily.
Notice
We have chicken pox in school at the moment in all classes. Please be aware and be vigilant for signs of
this. The spots come up quite quickly and there is a fourteen day incubation period. Children can return to
school once the last new spot has crusted over. If you are an expectant mum you may wish to talk to your
midwife about any implications of this for you.
