Newsletter 23 - Friday 10th March 2017
It was a pleasure to enjoy reading pupils’ work in
and out of class this week. I particularly enjoyed
Finnian’s visit to my office to show me his writingwriting
he wrote in such detail and was rightly proud of his
finished work- Well done, Fin!
Safeguarding Message
Pick up and drop off time are very busy outside
school and many of our pupils and younger
siblings are not always aware of the dangers
presented by the large volume of moving vehicles
leaving and arriving at this time. Furthermore,
passing drivers will
ill not always expect children to
be crossing the road at a number of different
positions in the village. Please avoid letting
children out of vehicles onto the road or leaving
younger children in vehicles whilst dropping off at
school.
Please repeat the message given to pupils in
school about the importance of road safety,
staying close to an adult when walking to and from
vehicles (for younger pupils) and observing the
green cross code when crossing the road to get to
and from school. Many thanks.
Booster Seats
On the 1st March new rules were introduced across
Europe that changed how backless booster seats
(booster
booster cushions ) are made. The new rules mean that
manufacturers aren’t allowed to introduce new models
of the backless booster seats for children
n shorter than
125cm or weighing less than 22kg.
The change does not affect existing models of seats or
cushions and doesn’t mean that they are unsafe or
illegal. ( source www.gov.uk )
The law requires all children
ildren travelling in the front or
rear seat of any car, van or goods vehicle must use the
correct child car seat until they are either 13
135cm in
height or 12 years old (which
which ever they reach first ).
After this they must use an adult seat belt.
It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that children
under the age of 14 years are restrained correctly in
accordance with the law.
Booster seats are IMPORTANT.
If your child is under 12 years old, or less than 135cm in
height you are legally required to use a booster seat in
the car.
 Seatbelts are made for adults
 Without a booster, a seatbelt is too high for
your child is they are less than 135cm/12 years
old. This can hurt them in a crash.
 The booster seat lifts them up so the seatbelt
sits on their hips and shoulder properly.
 A booster with side wings and head rest will
give protection from side crashes.
 It’s important that children and their friends use
a booster seat if they need one!
 People grow taller at different rates, some
classmates might not need a booster seat any
more, others might – it’s important they do so
they are safe in the car.

Hockey Sport Report – Harry M and James L
We played against 7 other schools at Harrogate
High School, St Peter’s (who won last year),
Willow Tree, Burnt Yates, All Saints, Ripley,
Oatlands and Saltergate. There
here were 7 matches
and we lost 4 but won 3. All Saint’s were the
winners overall and we did well coming 7th. “It was
fun to play, I like hockey even though it’s not my
favourite”.
Netball Sport Report – Alex N and Scarlett S
We arrived at Ripon Grammar and did a warm-up
warm
and practise. There were 8 other schools there
and we played 5 matches. The first match we won
3-0, second match we drew 0-0,
0, third match we
won 1-0, fourth match we won 1-0
0 and the fifth
match we lost 1-0. We came 2nd overall. Alex
thought “it was fun because I’ve
ve done it before with
Scarlett and James. People think netball isn’t
isn for
boys but it is and it’s great fun”.. Scarlett said “it
was fun being there and enjoying it. It didn
didn’t matter
if we lost or won as it was so much fun
fun”.
