CLERGY
JACK TECUMSEH CURTIS
Jack Tecumseh Curtis of Oklahoma City died July 23, 2004.
Born Oct. 25, 1931, in Oklahoma City, he graduated from Central State University in
Edmond. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, he attended Westminster Choir College
in Princeton, N.J.
Curtis returned to Oklahoma City and taught at Putnam City Junior High until he retired.
After retiring as a teacher, he prepared for the United Methodist ministry, earning a master’s
degree from the Graduate Seminary at Phillips University in Enid.
While a student local pastor, Curtis served at Cashion (1986-89). As a probationary
member of the Oklahoma Conference, he served at Deer Creek (1989-90) and Ryan (19901992). After he was ordained as an elder and admitted into full connection in 1992, he was
pastor at Ryan (1992-1994) and Talihina (1994-1997). He retired in 1997. He was serving
as a pastoral minister at Chapel Hill UMC in Oklahoma City at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Avonne; his son, Ted, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two stepsons:
Col. (Ret.) John Day and Dr. James Day, both of Tulsa; one stepdaughter, Diane Lay of
Tulsa; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were at Chapel Hill UMC in Oklahoma City.
ROBERT BENSON FELIX
Robert Felix of Tulsa died Dec. 19, 2004, in the Hospice Center at St. Francis Hospital
in Tulsa.
Felix, ordained an elder in 1956, was pastor at Piedmont, Velma, Wapanucka, Clarita,
Coalgate, Oklahoma City-Lambuth, Oklahoma City-Linwood, Jones, Bixby, Britton, Pauls
Valley, Oklahoma City-Southern Hills, and Cushing. He retired in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of Tulsa, and three children: Howard, of Florida,
and Glen and Jenna, both of Oklahoma.
Memorial services were at OKC-Chapel Hill UMC. Burial was at Hinton Cemetery.
G. CAROL GILBERT
G. Carol Gilbert died May 5, 2005.
Born Aug. 25, 1913, he was admitted to the Oklahoma Conference in 1975 after serving
in other conferences for 35 years. He retired in 1984. After retiring, he and his wife, Adah,
lived in Colorado. Adah died March 24, 2004.

DONALD RAY HARROLD
Donald Ray “Smoky” Harrold, a full-time local pastor at Cheyenne, died Oct. 3,
2004.
Born Sept. 7, 1945, in Stillwater, he graduated from Edmond High School and served
in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.
After his discharge from the Air Force, he lived in California, Florida and Kansas. He
married Eva Lou Harper Bandy on Jan. 26, 1981. She preceded him in death.
Harrold graduated from Pittsburg State University and Saint Paul School of Theology
in Kansas City, Mo.
He was a full-time local pastor in the Kansas East Conference from 1985 until 1992,
when he transferred to the Oklahoma Conference. He served at Arapaho (1992-1995), Olustee
(1995-2000), and Cheyenne (2000-2004), where he was serving at the time of his death.
Survivors include two daughters: Kathryn Harbert of Arkansas City, Kan., and Vicki
Harrold of Commerce; two stepdaughters; two stepsons; and eight grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 6, 2004, at Cheyenne School Auditorium. Burial was in the Cheyenne
Cemetery.
J. WILLIAM HESTWOOD
John William “Bill” Hestwood Jr., of Oklahoma City, died Nov. 23, 2004.
Born Jan. 10, 1920, in Tulsa, he earned degrees from Phillips University in Enid and
Perkins School of Theology (SMU, Dallas). Oklahoma City University conferred upon him
a Doctor of Divinity degree.
Hestwood entered the ministry in 1947, was ordained an elder in 1956 and retired in
1988. His pastoral appointments included Marshall, Covington, Hunter, Tulsa-Sheridan
Avenue, Shawnee-St. Paul, OKC-First, and Muskogee-St. Paul. He was superintendent of
three districts: Altus, Ada, and Stillwater. He was also Treasurer and Director of Finance
for Oklahoma Conference.
Hestwood is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice; three sons: Art Hestwood of
Amarillo, Texas, John Hestwood of Overland Park, Kan., and Jim Hestwood, of Oklahoma
City; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at St. Luke’s UMC in Oklahoma City.
JAY DEE JACKSON
Jay Dee Jackson of Bristow died Sept. 24, 2004
Born Jan. 22, 1922, in Gore, he married Millie Taylor on Oct. 19, 1946.
As a full-time local pastor, he served Canton, Oakwood, and Meeker. As an associate member of the Annual Conference, he served West Guthrie, Carter Avenue, Wesley
and Asbury in Ardmore, Jones, Heavener, Morris, Wetumka, Weleetka, Wetumka Circuit
(Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference), and Pawnee. He retired in 1984.
Survivors include his wife, Millie, of Bristow; two daughters: Pat McMillian of Vera and
Janice Kay of Sand Springs; two sons: Randal Jackson of Ardmore and J. Michael Jackson of
Bristow; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were at the Park Grove Cemetery of Broken Arrow.

WOODROW EUGENE KAY
Woodrow Eugene Kay of Big Cabin, Okla., died Nov. 6, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital
in Tulsa.
Born Sept. 18, 1917, he farmed before answering the call to ministry in 1944.
Kay served the Evangelical United Brethren Church until it merged with the Methodist
Church in 1968, forming the United Methodist Church. He was ordained an elder in 1950.
He was pastor at Hayward, Big Cabin Circuit, Woodward, Tulsa-Hale Heights, Mooreland,
Oklahoma City-Epworth, and Okmulgee-First.
After retiring in 1985, he was pastor of Otterbein UMC, near Langley, where he had
preached his first sermon. Kay continued his ministry at Otterbein until May of 2004, when
he again retired.
He is survived by Esther, his wife of 64 years; his son, Joe Kay of Edmonds, Wash.;
and two grandchildren. His daughter, Jeanne, preceded him in death.
CLIFTON D. MCKOY
Clifton D. McKoy died May 31, 2004, at his home in Tulsa.
Born March 19, 1926, in Stonewall, Okla., he was ordained as a deacon in 1957 and
as an elder in 1959. His pastoral appointments included Pruitt City, Ryan, Pawhuska, and
Perry. He was superintendent of the Boys Ranch from 1970 until 1978, when he became
executive director of Oklahoma Conference Circle of Care and served there until 1983. He
was associate pastor of Memorial Drive in Tulsa from 1985 until 1990, when he retired.
McKoy was survived by his wife, Maudine McKoy (she died Dec. 5, 2004), and a son,
George McKoy of Broomfield, Colo.
A memorial service was held June 5 at Memorial Drive UMC in Tulsa.
JOHN C. OGDEN
John Cornelius Ogden died June 7, 2004, in Dallas, where he and his wife had lived
since he retired from the Oklahoma Conference in 2002.
Born Nov. 26, 1935, Ogden was a graduate of Texas Wesleyan and Candler School of
Theology at Emory in Atlanta. He did postgraduate study at the New College, University
of Edinburgh, in Scotland. He received an honorary doctorate from Texas Wesleyan.
Ogden was pastor and district superintendent in the Central Texas and North Texas
Conferences from 1959 until 1996, when he transferred to the Oklahoma Conference and
became senior pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.
Ogden is survived by his wife, Jane Averitt Ogden of Dallas; his son, David Ogden;
and his daughter, Edith Suzanne Ogden.
A memorial service was held at First United Methodist Church of Richardson, Texas,
where he was senior pastor from 1976 until 1990.

DALE RAY SNIDER
Dale Snider, a full-time local pastor at Clinton, died Dec. 3, 2004, at the Integris Hospital
in Clinton.
Born July 26, 1934, in Butler, Okla., he graduated from Butler High School in 1952,
and farmed before entering the ministry in 1957.
He served at New Liberty, Bridgeport, Lookeba, Pocasset, Quinlin, Rosston, Knowles,
Vici, Camargo, Morning Star, Thomas, Fay, Sayre, Arapaho, Chapel Hill, Canute, Burns
Flat, and Dill City. He retired in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Snider, and one son, Leslie Snider, both of Clinton;
two daughters: Kim Sweeten of Midwest City, and Rhonda Maxwell of Waukomis; six
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ADA L. BOWERY
Ada L. Bowery was born Dec. 5, 1912, and died May 25, 2004. She was the spouse of
the Rev. Erven H. Bowery, a full-time local pastor in the Oklahoma Conference who died
in 1973.
EMMA F. FURR
Emma F. Furr was born June 6, 1925, and died Sept. 28, 2004. She was the widow of
the Rev. Rubert Furr, who was a full-time local pastor who died in 1993.
ADAH GILBERT
Adah Gilbert was born Nov. 5, 1913, and died March 24, 2004. She was the wife of the
Rev. G. Carol Gilbert. Rev. Gilbert, an elder, was a pastor in the Missouri West and Kansas
East Conferences from 1937 until 1975, when he transferred to Oklahoma Conference. He
died on May 5, 2005.

JARRETT KINGSOLVER
Jarrett Kingsolver was born April 2, 1926, and died July 13, 2004. He was the husband
of the Rev. Virginia Kingsolver, who retired in 1994 after serving 3.5 years in the Oklahoma
Conference. Rev. Kingsolver, an elder, lives in Tulsa.
MAUDINE F. MCKOY
Maudine F. McKoy was born Dec. 6, 1925, and died Dec. 5, 2004. She was the widow
of Rev. Clifton D. McKoy, who died May 31, 2004. The Rev. McKoy, an elder, retired in
1990, after serving 34 years in the Oklahoma Conference.
MAXINE SIMPSON
Maxine Simpson was born March 14, 1919, and died Dec. 25, 2004. She was the widow
of Ed Everette Simpson, a full-time local pastor who died in 1986.
FRANCIS THOMPSON
Frances Irene Tracy Thompson, born May 20, 1923, died May 1, 2005. She was the
wife of the Rev. Leslie Paul Thompson Jr., who retired in 1990, after serving 32 years in
the Oklahoma Conference. Rev. Thompson, an elder, lives in Yukon.
ALMETA WEEKS
Almeta A. Weeks was born Sept. 17, 1916, and died July 19, 2004. She was the wife
of the Rev. Othello Weeks, an elder who was a pastor for 23 years in Oklahoma. He died in
1987.
BETTY JEAN WILLOBY
Betty Jean Willoby was born March 21, 1931, and died Sept. 24, 2004. She was the
wife of the Rev. Hugh E. Willoby, an elder who retired in 2003 after serving 25 years in the
Oklahoma Conference. Mrs. Willoby is survived by Rev. Willoby, who lives in Chandler.
